Launched TaxID: the REST API I wish existed every time I integrated EU VAT

Just shipped TaxID (https://taxid.dev) — a REST/JSON wrapper around the EU VIES VAT validation service.

The story: every time I integrated Stripe + EU VAT for a client, the same nightmare. VIES is SOAP-only, goes down randomly, returns errors like "MS_UNAVAILABLE" with zero context, and has no caching. Every project ended with the same 200-line workaround. After the third time, I just shipped it as a public API.

What it does:

- Validates VAT numbers across 31 countries (27 EU via VIES + UK + CH + NO + AU)

- Returns company name and address as clean JSON

- Sub-10ms responses on cached lookups (24h Redis cache)

- Stripe-style error codes you can branch logic on

- Country-specific regex validation before hitting VIES (saves quota on malformed inputs)

Pricing:

- Free: 100 validations/month, no credit card

- Starter: $19/mo for 1k validations

- Growth: $49/mo for 10k

Stack: Hono on Cloudflare Workers, Redis for cache, TypeScript end to end.

Going to build this in public — will share MRR, signups, and learnings monthly. Goal for the next 90 days: first $500 MRR.
