Hey! π
I just launched Kursus.io, an app to create lists of useful links for indie entrepreneurs (to learn marketing etc.) organized like a course.
Everyone can create a list and share it. It's entirely free to use and there is no paywall or ads!

For each link you can specify:
Here are two list that might interest you:
I saw lots of people asking recommendations for books, videos and other resources to learn X topic, and I often ended up searching for the same links to share, so I wanted a way to access them easily.
I have around 200 visitors so far, mainly from me answering people asking for recommendations to learn marketing.
I don't plan to heavily promote it, I'll just post the link when I see someone asking for X resources.
I love the idea of creating a course-like infrastructure for maintaining personal research information and being able to share it via other media on the web.
One thing that would make that easier would be a human-readable link to each of the individual courses/chapters/topics. Maybe a copy link icon. Of course, the link should navigate back to the kursus.io site.
Mhhm, you mean something like kursus.io/k/copywriting-for-indies... ? I thought about it, but. I wanted a very short handle for social sharing
Yes, but I can see what you are saying. Maybe minimized links would be enough.
I'm getting back into making stuff after 3 years of working in an office. Turns out many things change in 3 years. I'm looking for the most efficient way to create web and mobile applications, and am overwhelmed with the myriad of tools available.
What works best for me currently are follow-through tutorials on YouTube β 2-3 hour long videos where someone builds an application from scratch, in real-time, and you can follow them along.
What I found is that courses on a particular skill are less relevant for me. It's one thing to know how to code in Python β another thing is to build a product and bring it to the market.
This was my first impression and my main feedback on your project: from the front page, I see it offering courses on copywriting, coding, marketing etc... It would be good to have something integrated, some course that ties together multiple skills to achieve results.
I struggled with this for a long time and landed on Angular and Firebase using Fireship.io for quickly getting up-and-running tutorials. Full disclosure, I was familiar with Angular. If I were starting from scratch, though, I would start with React as it seems to have a larger echo system.
What's your opinion of Firebase? I tried it once, and I had quite a bad experience. The tools were breaking all the time, and the database API was clumsy.
It was a bit difficult getting up and running, but once I grokked the concept, it was a much better experience. That is why I suggested Fireship.io. The tutorials are specific as necessary and very quick to cut through the cruft. I have no affiliation other than a satisfied customer.
So far, I only use Authorization/Authentication, FireStore, and analytics. Next, I will be incorporating Stripe using cloud functions.
Not to oversell it, but one big benefit it that Firebase is free until the application is getting the kind of traffic that one wouldn't mind paying. I'm not there yet, so I can't speak to the production costs with many users.
Interesting! I'm currently considering AWS as the could of choice. Have you tried it? How do you compare Firebase to AWS?
Yes, I've had an AWS account for several years and have used it on and off for various side projects. It is, without a doubt, a powerful platform. My last interaction was a few years ago, and this was my take:
I don't want to do DevOps, and AWS requires learning Too Much DevOps. I want to be able to focus on application implementation, period.
Firebase appears to be a project-based wrapper around Google cloud. So a more intimate Developer/DevOps experience can be had.
Lastly, I am not a hater, I have to jump back into AWS IoT for my job, and am hoping they have figured out a way to make things less complicated.
Yes, that's true. So far I only added resources I used myself when I wanted to learn a specific skill, but I should probably rename the copywriting one "Learn to write copies for your startup" or something, as it's all it is about
Side note, most of the Udemy courses contains actual exercices (the webdev bootcamp is about making a web app from 0), but could be good with free alternatives too
I like this concept. My only concern for you is that what it is/does etc is not clear on the main landing page. It makes more sense when you click through to the examples you provided - then i understood it.
If you find you get a higher than average bounce rate, you might want to consider a little more explanation as above...
"an app to create lists of useful links for indie entrepreneurs (to learn marketing etc.) organized like a course. Everyone can create a list and share it. It's entirely free to use and there is no paywall or ads!"
And maybe prioritise a link to an example.
On a second look, i realised there are example courses if you scroll down, but that wasn't apparent on first visit.
The scrolling was also slow, but that might just me having too many tabs open. :)
Otherwise, I'm sure there are some interesting uses for this. Perhaps those doing a curated newsletter, might make use of it.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
I totally agree with you, I'm was struggling a bit with the messaging for this one haha. I'll definitely rework it when I'll have a bit more time
Yeah, time, i hear you. This may help: https://landingpagehub.net/value-proposition-statement-guide-ffw-1-5-1/
Sounds good. I like it.
Thanks π
Awesome work man!
Thanks a lot π
