Launching Airkube.io 🚀 - Save 70%+ on your kubernetes (EKS) bill

Short version: I'm a cloud infra pro. I'm launching airkube.io to save EKS users 70% or more of their bill. EKS is AWS kubernetes service. The page is MVP, but the product works today. I want to know if it is "acceptable" or leaves any bad taste?

Full version:
I'm a devops/SRE person with a passion for building and managing large scale cloud infrastructure. I've built so many kubernetes clusters for many high traffic web apps the past few years. I've accumulated a lot of skills in that area and decided to put them to use and launch a product in an area I'm passionate about

The page is on Wordpress. It is by no means complete and building websites is not in any way what I'm good at. So, I'm really looking to learn 2 things:

  • Is it clear what my product does ?
  • I hope it doesn't look horribly bad, or leave a really bad taste. Does it ?

I know the logo for example sucks big time .. That's just where my graphics skills are at :D (Anyone wants to donate a cool logo?). However, the service itself (launching EKS clusters on spot instances and saving money) is rock solid. This is because I have reused a lot of infrastructure code that I used for other projects.

Hey, if you are interested in using kubernetes in any way .. Ping me! I would love to pair up and start you saving on your EKS bill

Is it clear what my product does ?

    • You do a great job of describing the benefit (reduce bill by 70%) but I'm less clear on the "how".
    • Is the Savings summary the complete product? It looks like it isn't since you show how the cluster autoscales. Perhaps there's a better way to illustrate what happens next.
    • It's a big ask to force me to launch a new stack within my AWS account. Is there a simpler next step?
    • How does this work with my existing EKS stack? Do I need to migrate it?

All that said, feel free to reach out if you need testers. My company (PeakMetrics) sits on EKS and our workload can be pretty dynamic so we are probably a good fit.

      Thanks @nickl for the feedback!

      • Glad the value prop is clear .. The "how" is I guess clear too .. I say by "running on spot instances", which I guess you're just not familiar with. Spot instances are cheaper instances offered by AWS, but they bring automation challenges around them since they can be killed at any time
      • The product does 2 main things. "Scales with containers", and "Saves 70%+" .. The screenshot focuses on the saving bec that is IMO the primary value prop.
      • Everything is launched in your own account. That's why we need you to run that stack, so airkube can connect to AWS account. Perhaps I can add a note under the button saying "Have questions? Contact me" or similar. BTW, the AWS permissions we ask for are very minimal. A lot of effort went into making sure, we only have the exact permissions to do the job.
      • Well, it doesn't interact with any EKS stacks it did not launch. So you can continue running your own EKS, it won't be touched. But if you want to get the bill savings, you'd launch a new EKS and apply your yaml files there. If you're actually considering to do this, I would be very happy to help walk you through it.

    Hi Kamal,

Thanks for answering my question on crypto.

Here is some UI feedback on your website.

The link at the top goes to a 404. (https://airkube.io/blog)
    I would temporarily remove it.

I would make this text bigger: " Save 70% or more on your AWS Kubernetes bill !" and put it before the "AWS EKS on Spot instances" text, as it's your value-added proposition.

The AWS dashboard screenshot looks hacky.

I would recommend using something like https://webflow.com to build a better-looking landing page.

A better-looking landing page will inspire confidence to your target audience.

I would also look to update the wording and tone to something more business-oriented like:
"You pay us 20% of what we save you! ", to something like:
"We get to keep a small fraction of your savings."

    Thanks,

Thanks a lot @morpheus for the feedback, very useful and I'll apply most of what you said.

I'd like more info on the "AWS screenshot looks hacky" .. Why does it look crappy .. I mean it's just a screenshot :) How can I make it better ? Would applying a dark mask and only focusing on the saved percentage make it look better?

        Hi Kamal,

It's not clear that is a screenshot as it looks like a normal interface. It has a blue link and a blue Close button, and tabs so as a user I get the impression that I can interact with the interface.
After clicking around on it I understand that it does not move and the blue Close button is just an image. More confusing your Drift plugin button has the same color as the close button.
Also, the screenshot has some orange corners behind. (I use Safari.)

You could remove the image altogether or replace it with something else.

Also try to unify your design, your site has 3 buttons all of them have a different shape and color.

Hello @indiepanda .. Thanks for reaching out! It is not really magic ofcourse :) AWS offers spot-instances which are usually about 80% cheaper than regular ec2 VMs. The problem is that AWS could kill your servers at any moment. My infra automation helps mitigate that, and allocate various different nodes dynamically optimizing for cost and/or availability.

You mentioned you are running k8s on DO .. But if you would care to test out EKS (AWS kubernetes), I would love to personally help get you started ASAP. Let me know!
