Launching New Ideas In 40 Minutes

Today's experiment is called HomeWerk and I launched it in 40 minutes ( I timed myself).

The idea: A community of people who work from home so you can work out of other people's home's sometimes to change up your environment.

Execution:

Buy Doman - namecheap - $10.16 (2 minutes)

Logo - I use brandmark to get ideas and then throw something together in sketch / photoshop (8 minutes)

Front End - I use nextjs and have a template I built. So I start with this template, rip stuff out I don't need and swap the assets (logos, favicon, etc). ( 9 minutes)

Copy - I'm also pretty weak at copy, so I spend a lot of time here. My intuition for these things isn't very good so I ping 2 options to family / friends / SOs. (8 minutes)

Typeform - The experiment is just to see a LOE (level of effort) to get signups. People filling a form out is a hurdle. If they're interested they'll fill it out. ( 5 minutes)

Hosting - I use google cloud run. It's my favorite thing. I have a dockerfile that builds my front end, pushes it to Google Cloud and a bash script to do this all for me. (1 minute)

DNS - I bought the domain from namecheap so I have to put in about 10 total DNS records to get it up on Google Cloud Run. It's annoying but doesn't take too long to both get veriified by google and put the dns records in (7 minutes)

and that's really it. The rest is marketing (like this post). I put out a medium article, push it to twitter, here, and hacker news and see what happens. It's literally zero cost to me to keep it going (if it lays dormant for a while, Google Cloud Run is a to-zero serverless-ish service) so I can just throw it up, and move on if it doesn't work. Or (and this has happened) it gets picked up somewhere and starts to accelerate.

Overall though, I'm serious about building this community if there's interest.
