Launching on PH before or after getting your first paying customers?

Hi Indi Hackers,

I don't know if it is a good idea, but I wanted to have paying customers on Jim Designs before launching it on Product Hunt.

Now that I'm over $1k MRR with 4 customers on board, I think it's the right time to launch, and I will probably do it sometime this week ๐Ÿคž.

Are you guys launching on PH pre-revenue, or do you wait to get your first paying customer / reach certain revenue to launch? Would love to hear your thoughts and experience on that.

When do you launch on Product Hunt
  1. ASAP
  2. When I get paying customers first

For SaaS, launch on PH after you have some traction or a few paying customers. For anything else, do asap.

Wrote about my recent PH launch experience here

I think it depends. If you want to get more early users and feedback to validate and polish your product, then launch it asap. If you'd like to generate more sales through PH launch, then it's better to get enough paying customers and get a sense of their level of satisfaction before deciding to launch on PH.

@MorganKung I think this is a pretty good take ๐Ÿ‘. As far as I'm concerned, I wanted to learn first from paying customers before launching on PH to get more sales

Yes, I'm in the same situation right now. Actually, I've launched the Beta version of Gemoo on PH, hoping to get early users and feedback, and that worked great for that purpose.

Product Hunt is a good idea, but product launch depends on your business/marketing strategy or goal.

We are working on Churnfree.com, a B2B SaaS product. We have a good customer base, but we haven't launched it on Product Hunt yet. However, we plan to do so soon because we have completed all the basic marketing campaigns and are ranking for organic keywords.

Yeah, there really seem to be 2 main goals when launching on PH:

      1. Validate your idea: launch asap
      2. Get more sales: launch once you've iterated with paying customers first

There's no need to wait for the first-payer, in my opinion, because PH is a superb site to meet earlybird users.

I actually think that PH can be used for two different purposes: either validate an idea or get more sales. Cf comment from @MorganKung

PH is a great way to get early customers to try your product - just launch as quickly as you can and start talking to users

Makes sense. But I feel like iterating first with a couple of users before launching on PH allows you to refine your product before the big launch on PH

From my experience, the views are nice, but a paying customer is best
