Tomorrow my partner and I will share Relica (https://relicabackup.com) to Hacker News. We've done Hacker News posts before (related to the Caddy web server), and they are brutal over there.
Since this is a paid data backup solution, we expect extra brutality. Any final pieces of advice to manage the haters?
My YC account is now about 10.5 years old and this year I've decided to stop commenting entirely because of the negativity though I still check it regularly.
You will always get haters on YC. But be sure to separate out people that are haters to make themselves feel good and people that are negative about your company but provide actionable advice/have legitimate concerns and focus entirely on this group(except for thanking the positive replies).
"Why would I use you instead of XYZ" - Ignore
"Why would I trust your service when XYZ exists" - negative but a good place to respond to since you can clarify parts of your service
Interesting nuance with how the question is phrased. It's funny that I can totally envision such a comment on the website. Each thread on HN is the same 😂
See each comment as a stone thrown at you; you can pick it up and learn from it or leave it be.
Hope your story gets picked up and you'll receive useful feedback! 💪🏻🙌🏻
You don't manage the haters, they don't want to be managed.
You can choose to ignore them or try to answer their doubts. If it is a post just slagging down the product I would suggest the former. As they say "Haters are going to hate". They are not your customer, you don't owe them anything.
FWIW I tried to do a Show HN of my product (https://vimalin.com ) the other week down there and there was virtually no feedback.
So I hope you fare better down there and wish you lots of new prospects.
