Launching the Simplest Idea Ranker

I always have hundreds of ideas buzzing in my head. I used to jot them down in my little notebook and then forget about them. Sometimes, I’d revisit these ideas a week later and find they no longer excited me.

Over time, I found it hard to keep track of these project ideas in a structured way and prioritize which ones to build.
To make my life easier, I started logging my ideas and ranking them along several dimensions. This helped me organize my thoughts and prioritize.

Recently, I turned this process into an app called Minimalist Idea Ranker.
It has one main feature: logging and ranking project ideas.

The ideas are ranked along four dimensions:

  • Simplicity: Can I build this idea?
  • Viability: Can I make a business out of it?
  • Desirability: Will people want it?
  • Gut Feeling: How confident and excited do I feel about it?

Based on these dimensions, an average general rating is calculated. In one central place, I can visualize all my ideas, sorted by priority.

I'm not a developer, so I created the app using a no-code platform. It’s minimalist, but it does the job nicely.

As I aim to declutter my life from interruptions and shiny things I don't need, the app's minimalist design is perfect for me.

The app is currently in internal testing, and I’m looking for Android users interested in testing it and helping improve the UX.
If you’re looking to rank your project ideas and improve the Minimalist Idea Ranker, ping me!

Perhaps you could consider refining the core ranking algorithm for greater accuracy and exploring API integrations to expand utility without compromising the app's simplicity. Additionally, allowing user-generated customization options could enhance personalization within the minimalist framework.

Just curious, how does this compare to other tools like Notion?

I've been using a Notion database for all my ideas for a number of years now. They are all managed with categories/tags for area (design/development/writing etc), effort, importantance, status (idea, in progress, complete etc..) and even scheduling (which now links to my calendar) to actually make progress on the ideas I'm ready to move forward with.

You probably have a much more flexible and complete solution with Notion.
I just wanted an app reduced to the core feature; listing and ranking the ideas. I am a Notion user but I only enjoy the tool on desktop. I don't like the UX on mobile.
Hence, I am using my own app on mobile.

Rad. I'm all about bare-bones myself. Will give Minimalist Idea Ranker on my android a try and let ya know!
