Tomorrow at 12:01 AM PT, I'm launching IsGridUp on Product Hunt.
What it does: Answer 8 questions about your home - size, state, monthly electricity bill, budget, current backup setup - and get a personalized energy independence plan in under 5 minutes. Three ranked recommendations (generator, solar battery, portable power station), with cost estimates, payback periods, and a crisis readiness score.
No signup. No contractor call. No upsell.
The problem it solves:
- Grid outages in the US are getting worse - Texas 2021, California rolling blackouts, Florida hurricane seasons. Homeowners want to prepare but face a $200–$30,000 price range with no clear starting point.
- Every existing resource either covers one solution (EnergySage is solar-only), requires a quote call, or is a static buying guide pretending to be personalized advice.
- IsGridUp removes that friction. 8 questions → a plan built for your specific home, budget, and state.
What's live at launch:
- AI recommendation engine (Claude API) - personalized to each user's 8 inputs.
- 52 state pages with live electricity prices (EIA API) and live weather alerts (NWS API)
- 10 blog posts covering generators, solar batteries, and outage prep
- Crisis readiness score — shows your vulnerability and how it improves after each purchase
- PageSpeed: 100/100 desktop and mobile
How it makes money:
Fully transparent: affiliate commissions. When IsGridUp recommends a product, the buy link is an affiliate link. Commission averages 5% on orders that typically run $800–$1,500. The tool earns by being genuinely useful — not by charging the user.
What I'd love feedback on:
- Does the crisis readiness score (1–10) feel motivating or gimmicky to you?
What would make you trust an AI recommendation enough to actually buy a $1,000 product through it?
- If you've launched an affiliate-model project, what actually drove month 1 traffic?
Launching tomorrow on Product Hunt - would appreciate your support if this resonates:
