Hey James! Marketing is so hard and varies immensely based on the product/service you're offering.
For Blotter, I'm really in validation mode, so my "marketing" consists of reaching out to folks who are potentially part of my audience and asking them about how they use their blog vs Twitter, etc. The point isn't to sell anything, it's just to learn about the market.
