Lesson learned: Finish that last 10% now and launch your product

A month ago someone launched this on PH https://www.producthunt.com/posts/airbar-2 it's a simple app that to allow you connect your AirPods on your Mac with a tap on the menubar.

I developed exactly the same app 4 or 5 months ago (maybe mine is better because you can pair a Bluetooth device from your choice and it keeps connected even if you restart the system) but I never launched it... I always found some excuse related with the name, the icon or thinking that It needed more features.

I think that as makers we must learn to finish that last 10% final and launch our products, posts, services or whatever we are working on.

  1. 1

"After the first 80% comes the second 80%".

There's a ton of reasons for that, eg:

    • thinking that finishing the product will magically create traction in the market.
    • noticing that logic you wrote before no longer applies when you review the product as a whole

Completing a product becomes harder with the increase in complexity you try to provide a solution for. The best thing we can do is to hold our shoulders high and dig in.

Sometimes cutting corners to push a release out isn't that bad. It allows for faster iteration based on real life user experience instead of your own unbiased Walhalla mindset.

Having said all this. I would still release your own product. Competition is healthy and most often the market is large enough for multiple players.

Good luck! And make sure to share your product once it's out there.
