Lessons learned from Betalist launch 🚀

Heya fellow hackers👋

Recently did a Betalist launch.

I looked for tips and was not able to find much. So I asked the owner of Betalist (Marc) and looked on the platform myself for some best practices.

Created below list from that. Maybe it is useful when you want to do a Betalist submission 😃

  1. Add one Gif to use as the thumbnail. Let it describe your product. Don't make it too flashy.
  2. Stand out by using colors in your images. Most images look pale with a white background.
  3. Ideal image size is 800x600px. It will be shrinked down to 400x300px.
  4. Don't use website screenshots as images. Focus on the benefits.
  5. Ensure to have a Twitter account for yourself as maker and the company.
  6. You need a one-sentence pitch and a larger description of two paragraphs starting with your products name.
  7. Consider a special offer for Betalist customers. However, it does not seem many products have one.
  8. There is no ideal timing for the feature. The team is selecting at their own schedule.

Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Hey @Ruben88 thanks for the post. If you don't mind me asking, would you be able to share numbers in terms of the total traffic from Betalist to your website? Conversion rates differ for different websites but would like to get an idea about the traffic amount Betalist does drive. I'm in the process of launching a resource in two weeks so would be nice to get the idea about numbers.

I'll might message you later next week to possibly use boei on my website. If possible do try to get more testimonials on the website, the testimonial from Dan and the widget on his website is what sold it to me haha :)

I paid $130 once and all I got were subscribers on a mailing list, but 0 conversions.

    2. 1

Yeah definitely, but I need to work my stats a bit on that. I have not been able yet to make the stats easily available haha.
I am thinking now to deep dive in the stats and then share that in a new post for anyone that is interested.

That is so cool! Sure feel free to let me know :)
Haha yeah I am trying to get more!

    3. 1

I was featured on Betalist March 12 and got a total of 305 unique visitors and 0 conversions. Needless to say I wasn’t very thrilled about the ROI.

  2. 2

Ideal image size is 800x600px. It will be shrinked down to 400x300px.

I checked betalist.com but the image sizes seem to be shrinked to 480x360px. Where are the 400x300 images displayed?

    1. 1

Image sizes seem to vary a bit here and there on the site but still 4x3. 800x600 is thus large enough to fit for multiple locations

My gif was a bit blurry on twitter though so not sure what happened there

I launched on Betalist last month as an experiment. Curious to know what your results were... mine were... disappointing.

Got a small boost in traffic. Zero conversions (despite having a special offer) that I can track from Betalist referral traffic.

Were you happy with your results?

    1. 1

Mine was up about a week and a half ago. Uptick in traffic, with a few signups. B2B type app, so I was pretty happy. I read approximately none tips beforehand, so can only speculate if it might have done better. Reference: https://betalist.com/startups/deployee

Hey @derekwilliamson just checked out Deployee through the Betalist link. Hats off to you for creating Deployee from a moral point of view. Reminds me of a story I read about Victorinox many years ago

Thanks! I'm glad it resonated. That's exactly the thinking. The challenge right now is finding enough co's who have projects/needs!

    2. 1

Hmm interesting... It is live since today so need to gather the results afterwards.
I have had a few signups I think but need to check the referer ;)

      What was your listing?

        1. 1

Btw I see that you don't have chat or easy contact options. Maybe my product could be something for you?

        2. 1

Cool listing, you even got 10 likes so that does not look too bad compared to other listings. Someone mentioned that they will sign up, didn't they do that?

          1. 1

The commenters on the listing were friends and clients who had already bought and wanted to show support when I announced I had launched on betalist.

I've explored contact popups previously and they were never used. Tried Drift, Facebook Messenger, Email, Live chat... none of them were ever used by website visitors.

            1. 2

Ah ok that is cool and a good idea!

Interesting to know! I am planning to add some statistics in the future, but till date I have had 10-20 people reaching out to me using the Boei button on my website. That is probably biased because it is the product, but people seem to interact with it!

              1. 1

I went ahead and signed up to try it out. I have some feedback, but it was super easy to set up. Almost too easy lol!

                1. 1

                  Cool man thanks! :) 😊
