Hi! Over the past 7 years, I have been heavily focused on growing my businesses and forsaken the health part. I made a commitment a few weeks ago, to get back in shape. Now, I hit gym 5 times a week, track calories while being in daily deficit.
If you are an entrepreneur and also in the process of getting in shape, let's keep each other accountable and make sure we get actually get fucking fit!
Feel free to msg me at siimonsander@gmail.com and introduce yourself. We could communicate via Slack/email, etc.
I’ve been on a similar journey for about 4 months now. Down almost 25-26lbs so far since I started with amazing strength gains! And overall lean muscle mass growth as well!
I’ve been posting about my journey on my instagram profile as stories (occasionally about my indie hacker journey too: I have a SaaS project I’m working on)

Happy to connect over email/slack as well. Will send over a note.
Would live to have a remote gym buddy!

My secret technique was that I hired a personal trainer. Now going to the gym is suddenly easy because if I don't go I lose the money I'm paying him. I also enjoy that he takes care of all the complication of deciding on the workout.
There's an idea I've found very powerful: instead of using your limited willpower to try really hard to do something, instead set up your environment so it's easier.
Anything you can do to make exercise easier is great. Gym buddies, play a sport you actually enjoy, hire a trainer, play Dance Dance Revolution, buy weights so you can lift them at your desk, etc etc.
Whatever works is the best strategy!
I'm doing some sport on a regular basis for 2 years now.
What I mean by regular basis:
I do that every week, even when I'm not at home (holidays for example).
Of course I failed a lot of time before having this consistency.
What I would advise:
Find a sport you really like. You will be very motivated to train if you want to progress in a specific activity.
I really like bouldering, that's my main motivation to train during the week.
Unfortunately "I want to look good" or "I want to be more in shape" is not motivating enough.
Begin slowly. I'm doing quite a lot right now but at the beginning I was doing 5 min of sport every morning and that's all. This is super important: begin slowly, be patient and go step by step.
It's more important to be consistent than to do a lot. That is, it's more important to do 2min of sport everyday for six months than 5hours everyday for two weeks.
Do your sport at a precise moment of the day, after something really specific. It's the best way to build habits: you need a cue (the "after something specific") and you need a precise time frame to do it.
Don't hesitate to give yourself some rewards: if you do your sport all week, you can drink your favorite beer, or something like that.
You can use a habit tracking tool. I personally use Loop Habit Tracker for Android. It's simple and very effective to me.
Even if you're not motivated (it will happen), continue to strength your habit. Even if it's only going into your sport outfit. It's enough. Next time you will do better.
Minimize any difficulties. If your gym is too far away, find another way to do some sport. Less you have excuses not to do your activities, better it is.
Personally, I would say that having a mattress at home is enough to exercise.

Keep-fit is very important, especially for entrepreneurs.
Building a startup is a big systematic project, and keep-fit is one of the most important things we should do as a high priority.
I started running exercises a few years ago. Now it's part of my life, and I enjoy it.
I go for an 8-9 km run every Tuesday afternoon, and a 5km run every Saturday morning in a Park-run club. I also do three to four half Marathons each year.
This schedule is very important, so I can feel energetic every day.
Oh, it's Tuesday today, I'm gonna run in about 30 minutes around a lake.
And I will have another half-Marathon on 25 Nov around a bigger lake.
Each time when I run a half-Marathon, I would have a couple of moments that I want to give up, but I tell myself to keep going, it will be all fine. This is exactly like the process of making a new product. No matter what difficulties we face, we just need to tell ourselves to keep going, all will be fine.

Hi Siimon, my email is delight.wjk@gmail.com
Cheers,

Good idea. We made a Slack channel for devs who want to get fit, and we're running our second monthly challenge already: workout 24 times in 30 days. The next one starts in few days so feel free to join us:

(we also have a 30-day no-sweets challenge which is ending tomorrow, and few people have successfully completed it 😁️)
I'm now hitting gym again for 5times/week and doing intermittent fasting diet again
I was train for bodybuilding/powerlifting for 8 years before, then in last 2 year i train only 1-2 times/week and eat a lot fast food and gain so much fat (i have fat genetic).
You must understand your body, what kind diet or food which suitable for you. I found if i eat a lot carb in morning or noon,i will feel sleepy at work :)
Let's do it! It would be cool to share some tips on diet, types of exercises, scheduling working hours and stuff like that. Count me in!

Hi, thank you! Email: sharp@aesthetic-dyn.com
Cool initiative! Start working my healthy discipline a few weeks ago also 😅. It's very important not to burn out in physically with 5 days in a gym per week though. I had such experience before: You start with very intensive regular trainings and after a few weeks you can't maintain it because of physical exhaustion and just drop it all 😅 at the end with a first stress moment that happened in your project.
Paying more attention to my physical daily condition and adding training load slower this time 🤓

Just sent you an email also.
In! Down for Slack! I haven't gotten my ass back on the wagon. But you've inspired me to take it to the gym tomorrow!

Hi Siimon! Kudos for your idea. Have you read this article stating that "healthiest people don't go to the gym"?
https://qz.com/quartzy/1452630/the-healthiest-people-in-the-world-dont-go-to-the-gym/
I don't want to sound salesy in such advantageous subject but we've been trying to help people whose lifestyle is mostly sedentary (www.aidlab.com). Maybe our website is not 100% clear, but we are building routes and activities* based on your lifestyle and overall health - our major users are other founders and software devs.
Maybe you will find Aidlab helpful for your case?
