In one of Reid Hoffman's most recent podcast interviews with Bill Gates:
He talks about inflection points. Gates was able to predict each technology inflection point and rode it via Microsoft. Operating systems, MS Office, internet explorer, search, etc.
Anybody predicting any upcoming tech inflection points? Social media is one that is ongoing now/past, but what is next? My thoughts are AI/ML, AR/VR and crypto.
But I don't think any company/product has truly cracked the "interface" for these techs.
Haven't listened to the podcast... but the idea of Gates/Microsoft "predicting search" is amusing ;)
I think the best of social media is still ahead. Slack is the latest social network, but it wasn't even designed for that, and discovery is terrible. I could see some kind of network that connects online slack/competitor communities being useful. Even better if it replaces meetup.com too.
I think independent content creation is big (I'm working in this space). Creators have great tools now; you can make stuff without much capital. Distribution channels are the main problem currently IMO.
