Let's talk localization

A while back, at Taskeo.co, we decided it's time to start introducing language versions of our platform (integrated cloud business management, FYI). These days, many startups, even when not from English-speaking countries, go straight for the global versions.

It's good. We've done it too.

Obviously, you'd think that local versions equal smaller market and additional hassle, so why not focus on the global market with millions of potential users?

Well, here are a few thoughts of mine on the subject.

#1 - Not everyone speaks English. It's still a foreign language to some. By introducing local versions, we're aiming to reach these people who don't use any software at all because they don't understand it. It's an untouched niche that sometimes is much easier to conquer than the overcrowded global that everyone goes for.

#2 - We have, so far, only introduced the languages spoken on our team. This way, anyone can help if needed and we don't need to outsource language services.

#3 - Thanks to the above, our sales teams can speak their native language. Putting aside that they can reach local people who don't speak English, our sales team can focus on communicating in their native language.

Your thoughts?
