Liability Insurance ?

I have a request from a potential first customer that if fulfilled would land me $2,000 ARR. They are saying that I must have some form of insurance on my company for the deal to go through.

My company stores github access tokens with read only access to clients full repositories, so there is def some liability there.

Any general thoughts? Any thoughts on best place to buy insurance like this? This would be my first customer.

I used Next - cheap and quick...never had to talk to someone. Go for the cheapest option - I think it's like $250.

Liability insurance is quite common, and this is not surprising at all. If you decide to use such a service, you need to find a company that has long been working in this area. On the Internet, many companies issue such insurance. When I bought insurance for the motor trader , I spent a lot of time choosing an insurance company. But users on the forum helped me decide. They told me about their experiences with different insurance agencies. It really helped me with the choice.

There are plenty of such companies, you could do it at https://www.liabilitycover.ca/errors-omissions-insurance-engineers/ for instances or any other to your liking. Getting a liability insurance is definitely a thing you should do, though. The client's request is totally understandable and it is a lot better for to have it. Picture something going wrong and you having to pay from your own resources, with a bigger deal it would leave you bankrupt. Liability insurances aren't for free it's true but it's a good investment.

@jonnyb would you mind sharing which company you ended up going with?

I ended up just getting general liability coverage through http://thehartford.com/ to close the deal. It was a couple hundred dollars and was all their operations team needed me to have. It does not cover things like a data breach, however.

Thank you - I got a quote through Founder Shield for a couple thousand which probably is fair, but a bit high since I don't have any paying customers yet.

    What's your company?

In a previous life, I had a million dollar liability policy, for a brick and mortar store. It was fairly inexpensive. < $1k (US) a year.
