Lifetime Deal can get you money & customers, but be careful!

Hello hackers,

A little over two years ago, I did a Lifetime deal to raise money for FeedBear. It worked well for me. I learned some lessons in the following months that I want to share with you:

πŸ‘Œ Do it when your product is "ready" (usable and useful)
πŸ“ˆ Don't go big if your costs scale with the number of customers
❌ Majority of buyers are not your customers, and they may push you into the wrong direction
πŸš€ A small group of customers will give you excellent feedback and will boost your product significantly
πŸ” Don't do the deal multiple times; you need to find real paying customers to maintain cash flow long-term!

You can read the complete story πŸ‘‰ on our blog.

I'm curious, what's your experience with lifetime deals?

Thanks, Caleb! Have you done an LTD with OFFEO?

I'd love to hear from developers who did lifetime deals through appsumo. If it was worth it, what they learned, etc.

It's difficult to go that big if you're a solo developer. Here's my favorite Appsumo LTD story by @MaximeB https://medium.com/pixelme-blog/how-we-made-170-000-in-2-weeks-with-an-unexpected-appsumo-promotion-fc2ccb41aba0

I found your article to be so educative as i plan to do a LTD on appsumo.

I am planning a LTD for Linkdra.com . Would be the first one for me. This thread and tips are awesome as we go thru the drill! Trying with one of the smaller ones and not AppSumo.

To test run, thinking 3 deals free to follow Indie hackers. Just drop a note to team@linkdra.com if you are interested. Would make sense if you are doing any kind of Lead Generation on LinkedIn.

You might want to check the date on your blog post, which states "April 22, 2020".
