Question to founders who've sold LTDs so far: where did you sell them?
How did you go about sharing it? I know there's a lot of mixed feelings about LTDs, so people every now and then might bash them, while others love them.
I've seen the past posts about LTDs in here, so I've done my research, but they're sliiightly old.
Curious to know from any successful founders (who've done that) what have they found that works best?
P.S: Feel free to roast/feedback our LTD offering!
there are many active facebook groups about LTD. try there.
appsumo is the king of ltd marketplace
Hi Daniel, the only thing that really works long-term is AppSumo, but do NOT accept a Select Deal, as they would take 80% of the share, and Select must be exclusive, so you would not be able to list anywhere else. It takes some time to get traction, though, so it´s not exactly a spike in sales. Just list it and have it simmer there for some 12 months as it grows continuously.
The only other platform that also worked for us is Dealify, but this is different. You will get about two months of promoted sales. Then it completely runs dry.
Forget about Pitchground (they cheat you!), Dealmirror (No reporting or traction), and Rockethub (crickets).
I suggest reaching out to (members of your Subreddit, haha) and Facebook Group admins of LTD groups (especially Ken Moo, Albert Tan, and the Dealify Group), as these are the most interactive with a giveaway.
You might have caught the discussion about the LTD industry destroying SaaS sales, as these are, obviously, not sustainable. That´s why I started building a marketplace to help promote SaaS subscriptions. If you are interested in this, just let me know, as I think this might as well be interesting for your Reddit group ;)
Wow loads of value, thanks a ton. Thanks for mentioning the top-tier advice. Dealify is this I suppose, right?
So that means I'd have to go with their marketplace, where they take... 30% I think.
Just let it there as if it was an affiliate (since they are just that, I reckon!)
What do you think of giveaways as a way of promoting it? Heard some bad stuff from one person, but I'd like to hear more opinions. Ever did one yourself?
Sure, do say more!
Hi again ;)
Yes, Dealify.com and the right FB Group. Say "Hi" to Dan Canfield from Thorsten from ViSPR ;)
The only problem with the AppSumo marketplace deal is that they do NOT allow affiliates to promote it (Shitshow!), so it´s unlikely to get any help from any admins out there. We actually used the Dealify listing for FB group promotions, as it´s possible with these guys.
The split is 5% if you sell to new AppSumo users (and cannibalize your own sales by bringing them new users) but 30% when you sell into their existing network. But they do not help in promoting your deal AT ALL!
Yes, we did a ton of webinars and giveaways. It was very active, and we sold many Dealify deals through those.
As for the SaaS Marketplace, I am currently building in public here: super-apps.net Way to go, but it will hit the LTD industry with a vengeance ;)
Were you not talking about the marketplace initially?
I find it fair that they're not helping you promote it at all, as they do have traffic, so... yeah. If you want their help, they'll get their 80%
RE: super-apps.net - hit me up with updates as you go through it!
Ah, and don´t forget, the "Spikes" in sales will only come from further discounted deals on the whole platform, so you are left with even less overall...
Sorry for the confusion. I am recommending their self-listing marketplace deal, which is NOT Select. I used this for about 18 months and made around 65K USD. But it´s still not sustainable when you calculate my costs in that time for the development and rent and taxes.
And sorry to disagree, but when you build anything, it´s not O.k. for anyone to come and grab 80% of this from you. Especially for an already insanely discounted LTD deal! The absolute maximum in the case they actively promote it should be 50%. Ethically, they should be good with 20-25% percent. All they have to do is send some emails! It´s not like they have any big investments to make since they already built their audience in the last 10 years. It´s different if you start something new. In this case, I could understand a bigger cut if this is going to be their money on the line, which is not the case for AppSumo. And for an established player, this is outrageous, as they do not have anything to do with development, support, or ongoing maintenance at all. They just grab what´s yours and make a killing from it.
I will keep you updated about the new marketplace. I think this could make a big dent in this "industry" (long-term) :)
