Linux/Centos7 SysAdmin -- Short Term

Hey.

Anyone here looking to be a short term SysAdmin for a Centos7 setup. I'm going to be implementing a DigitalOcean VM, to test a webapp running under Apache.

I'm going to want to::
Secure the box
VirusScan
Setup Apache/DNS
Get a test domain
and prob a few other things that I can't recall
--oh.. and document everything so I don't screw things up

If you're up to a small project, and you've done this a bunch of times, hit me up!

thanks

    Hi tsmith,

Shot me a PM with more details on the project.
I can either take on the project or I might or point you in the right right direction.

I manage the infrastructure for my main business.

      Hey Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Basically, looking to put a test app out to the 'net, and I'm looking to have a sysAdmin set it up/doc the steps to really nail down the "complete" process/steps to set everything up properly.

Yeah, ideally I'd like to have a part-time sysAdmin for this (less headaches) as I know it would be done correctly. But this is out of my pocket.

Hit me up if you want a further conversation.

      thanks

        Hi tsmith,

Shoot me an email ([email protected]) with more details on the app you have or are building. A VPS may not be the best option for you, if you are really early.

But either way I'm happy to help setup and document the process and management.

Looks like one day of work... Why don't you do it yourself?

um.. for the same reason I use a doc. I'd rather not do a 1/2 azzzed job, as opposed to someone who actually knows what.how to do this!

Just saying, I does not require so much knowledge. Not like a doctor ;)
And as you seem to know your way around it, setting up a VM is not that hard.

        But I understand your request.

          Blowing out/starting a VM.. trivial

Generating a VM, and correctly securing it, updating it, web service, ports, dns, ddos protection, user management, selinux, malware/rootkit/etc, properly configuring the server/apps.. nah.. not so easy.. unless you more or less know what you're doing

          but hey, you do you!

Any particular reason you're choosing CentOS? Nothing wrong with that of course :)

      Hey Keith..

I've got a familiarity with earlier Centos.. but I'm not a raving fan.

My primary issue is that whatever is selected, I have someone who's ride/die with me to get this whole process up/running.. and generating revs..

So, I realize I'm probably going to need to wear a few different hats to get certain things done. I fully expect that some people will work with me for a bit, and then flake off. When that happens, I'll need to be able to step up and keep moving forward.

Projects with enough of a bankroll, can over come some of these issues with cash, and buy more talent. When you're dealing with limited budget, you're severely constrained.
