I am building a minimal replica of the loom screen recording app for linux(currently just for gnome). Loom helps me build small clips for code reviews and quick demos all while making the videos easily sharable with a link.
Building this because even after numerous emails to the loom team, it does not seem like they are planning on releasing a desktop app for linux anytime soon.
I am almost close to finishing the prototype, and although I was only initially building this for myself (thought this would be a great way to try a new tech stack, I did not want to use electron like loom originally did) but I couldn't help but wonder if someone would pay to use it.
I am skeptical because I have not paid for any apps on linux myself. Although I have heard of people building developer specific stuff and charging for yearly or lifetime licenses. Haven't seen any linux-only subscription based products yet.
I can't vote yet, but I would totally pay for this if it's a lifetime license. Otherwise, I would keep using OBS and Peek.
Thats quite assuring😁 and sounds doable for an offline recorder, which is almost ready.
