Lofi streaming + wallpaper site for work?

Lofi is amazing for studying or working. Lofi Youtube channel ChilledCow has over 6 million subscribers with around 20k people viewing the video stream lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to at any given moment. That's amazing!

A combination of this, having double monitors most of the time, and the fact I NEED to listen to music during work / studying gave me an idea.

Ok picture something like this (image from seerlights):

Along with music like this

The idea is to provide a service like noisli, but with lofi themed illustrations (that change periodically) and a stream of lofi music.

Of course there are other features / problems that needs to be considered like who provides this content, monetization, customization, etc but curious about the interest behind a project like this.

Thoughts?

If you're looking to do this project for fun and give it away for free, then I think there's enough people who would be interested in using it.

But I think it would be difficult to monetize because it's easy enough to listen to it on youtube for free.

Also, the market for lofi listners is probably much smaller than Noisli's market, and I'm not even sure if I would consider Noisli is a successful business. My guess is that it's probably doing about $10-15k MRR after 7 years of work.

Monetization is the hard and interesting part about a project like this.

To remark on some of your points:

      • It'll definitely need to be different from a nice looking youtube video.
      • Noisli actually ranks in the low 70K on alexa, probably has a sizeable customer base
      • I'm thinking about targeting people with at least two monitors (who probably also have more mojo to use :D). Not a huge market of course, but I'd say it's a growing, active niche!

I'm not surprised that Noisli has 70k visitors on Alexa. They've been around since 2013 and have a lot of good free press. I've seen them mentioned several times in various articles and blog posts over the years. But almost all of those users are mostly like on the free tier.

When you look at Noisli's monetization, they have 3 sources: Apple App store, Google Play store and their website. According to Sensor Tower, App store does $6k/mo. Play Store does <$5k/mo which means it's probably more like $1-2k/mo. I'm guessing their website does another $5-10k/mo or so which is where I got my estimate of $10-15k/mo.

For some people, that kind of revenue after 7 years of work is fine, for others that might not be worth the effort.

By the way, I'd be happy to try out your app when its ready. I listen to lofi when I work, I have three 4k monitors on my computer. But I'm not sure I need it. I just listen to lofi tracks on my music player. I used to play chilledcow videos on youtube on one of my screens but I found that to be distracting.

        Good luck!

Oh, one more thing – if you do decide to go ahead with this project, don't forget about copyright laws in terms of who owns the music, artwork, videos, etc.

Good to see the creativity of naruto wallpaper design for different backgrounds. I would love to make a similar one for my project.

I couldn't imagine paying for a service where they just loop sounds... However, this could be a cool project to get your name out there right?

What you could do, should do?, would be to reach out to artists and have them feature their work on your site(both lofi and art) and just provide links to their work and ways to support you, buy you a coffee etc...

I like lofi music but I wouldn't pay for it ever
