It's an unpopular opinion, but I kinda like being served content that are relevant for me. It doesn't bother me at all.

Of course, it can be bad if you binge-watch recommended videos, always clicking next until you lost all your time. But for me, that's more about personal time control than youtube being evil.

Also, it's better when the Ad is personalized, remember how the web was before? Lots of non-related Ads that no one would click, publishers had to put lots of ads because monetization was so low.

I would hardly call this unpopular. I think over 99% of internet users are constantly logged in and perfectly fine with it.

I really like recommendations. If your recommendations are filled with crap is because you actually like watching them.

There is a big problem with our way to find new information: the confirmation bias.

Basically it says that we are attracted by things which reinforce our point of view, even if it's the wrong one. It's reassuring, and the companies controlling the Internet know that.

So they serve us content we will agree with.

On the other side, to grow as a person, it's good to learn from people who have different ideas. Who can disagree with our conceptions. We can then question our own believes, and build a better, wider, more nuanced opinion. We can improve.

The whole internet goes against this view, and I think it's a problem.

I don't do this, but I definitely don't rely on algorithms or newsfeeds to give me what I need to consume.

It's so important to be efficient with how you use your time to consume things. Create a system. Define your rules. Stick to sources you value.

Keep in mind that you are the main input for the recommender system in most cases. Watch good videos, you get recommended good videos.
