Logo design - where's best place to get one
I've done a logo myself, but to be honest, it isn't great.
Where can I go, that is affordable, to get something awesome.?
When I say 'affordable' am meaning as inexpensively as possible as there's a limited budget, but at the same time I want something amazing. Lol! Bit of a dilemma.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
The bad news is that you're almost certainly not going to be able to get something inexpensive and amazing. Even if you find something cheap and amazing, my guess is that it'll still cost you heavily in terms of the time you spent searching that you could've spent doing other things.
The good news is that I've never seen an example among the hundreds of successful founders I've talked to where having an amazing logo was a crucial ingredient of their success.
My advice would be to focus your valuable time and attention elsewhere unless you have a compelling reason not to.
That is a really valid point and I'd kind of gone down that route, but I'm just not happy with it. I think it reflects a little badly on the whole thing. That said, maybe I am just too close to it, as what you say does make total sense.
One hack is to just choose an extremely simple logo. IH's logo is literally just a white square with the letters "IH" in it. It took me five minutes to design, but because it's so simple it doesn't make the site look bad imo. That's much harder to do with a fancy logo.
Good point. Extremely simple might well be the way to go. I've gone pretty simple at the moment, but just don't think what I've done looks right. I will keep trying :-)

I normally play around in Figma. Look for example in dribble, etc ... and maybe you come up yourself with something

Thanks for that. You are right about Dribbble. Lots of inspiration there for sure. Don't know whether I'm skilled enough to replicate some of those designs in Figma though.
I wasn't neither for ui design...and every day I get better. If there's a will there's a way.

Okay, so I have been working with a few designers on freelance websites for my startup. I've hired her for logo and marketing designs. She is actually amazing and she asks me if I introduce her to my fellows. I don't mind as she did an amazing job on my logos. She was not only professional but also easy to communicate with, she answered all my questions and gave me advice on what would work better for my brand. I was so happy with the end result that I posted my logo design on Reddit and received positive feedback from other people in my circle.

You can find inspiration from dribbble and Pinterest, then goes to fiverr.com and find someone who is capable of doing it by looking through their showcase, then ask them to replicate it or tweak it a bit for you. If you are good searcher, you may find someone who is really good creators but offer a very low price ($5) as they wants to build up their reviews. I found one before, but not easy.
@Pip I mentioned below my concern with puzzle pieces. I took 5 minutes and mocked up something I think would be more appropriate and obvious to users. Don't take this literally - just meant to serve as a possible direction. You don't have to like it though.

Looks good, and I will definitely consider it, although was a little surprised with the $29 fee just to post a job, and then having to pick 5 designs as inspiration for the designers. I was hoping the designers would provide their own inspiration :-)

I was saying it slightly tongue in cheek. Truth is, apart from wanting it landscape rather than portrait and using the palette colors I am already using, I am very open to any ideas. I do totally get that I need to write a good brief though as it would be a massive uphill battle trying to design anything without a good written brief covering the topic, and I suppose providing five sample designs would fall into that. I just didn't want to be leading them down a route.

At the moment it is four jigsaw pieces, which I felt summed up, in a roundabout way, what the Writing Therapy service is about.
My hope was to have something that was friendly, welcoming, and professional all at the same time, as people need to feel confident about using the site and that it will benefit them in some way - which is totally the main aim, as this is definitely a passion project with the main aim being to help and benefit others.
Sorry to jump in here, but my concern is that the average user won't understand the meaning behind the puzzle pieces. I've consumed what I can on your website and haven't drawn a connection. Maybe it's just me, though so take it with a grain of salt. If you're planning to keep it, I would recommend eluding to that puzzle piece concept somewhere on your website. Doing things like this will not only help tie things together, but also move you in the direction of establishing a real brand.
I totally agree. I think I was eluding to how life, and the issues it throws at us, is like a jigsaw we need to put together. But it is so tenuous even I don't think it works, so it is good to hear it from someone else :-)
I've tried adding some color, but still think it suffers from this same disconnect.
That looks like an interesting therapy for various issues. I'm curious on what your product will be exactly.
About the logo, I would not recommend you to spend a lot of resources on its. If you would add a bit of colour to each puzzle piece and throw in a pencil or something it is recognisable enough to serve you until you hit a few thousand in mrr.

I've added some color. If you get a moment let me know what you think. As someone else pointed out though, the jigsaw piece doesn't seem to really fit.
It looks much better already. In the meantime, a logo based on some writing equipment or something would be a better match.
You could just look up a free vector image and make some changes to make it more logo like.
I have done this as well, it should not take a lot of time and and can have surprisingly good results.
