Loneliness when working remotely
Hey,
Would love to hear some feedback as I’m not sure if the web app I'm currently working on is something that people might actually use/need.
Idea: Website that allows digital nomads/local freelancers to see how’s around and quickly meet up for lunch break/coffee break/chit-chat
How it would work:
A user shares a place on a map where he/she plans to go for a coffee/launch. Other people currently logged in can see this activity and ask to join. After at least one person joins that person a group chat is created and listed on that town activity.
Each chat group would be displayed on an interactive map as a pin/tag.
Other than that, there would also be a general channel for each town where people can just hang-out online.

Good idea, however ppl are generally apprehensive about meeting unknown strangers without any proof. Something like this could work on a site like indiehackers where users can chose to meetup with each other (depending on karma / post history)

Do you think seeing a profile with LinkedIn(or/and other social media) account connected/linked to it + chatting with that person before meetup would be enough to gain trust?
The service would be aimed at professionals so hopefully meeting someone really out of place would be minimal.
The general idea is to create a "hang-out" service for people who work independently/remotely and on top of that give them ability to connect with each other in person.
Yes Linkedin would be a good way to add trust. The thing I was suggesting this could more work in a meetup setting (like the meetup tab in Indiehackers) where people want to meet at specific place at a specific time for a given agenda. People don't want to goto coffee shop to work and then getting periodically disturbed by others. But yes, I see some value in this because I have been working remotely for last 8-9 years. My Idea of how this could be useful is
Yeah, sorry I didn't communicate it clearly enough. I was thinking of more like short 15-20 minute meetups for a coffee/lunch f.e during lunch break- without actually working over there. Something more random/less formal than a regular meetup.
It wouldn't be a big commitment and you would have a chance to meet other professionals working from home and expand your social network or just enjoy a regular chit-chat.
But yes, I see how this may not be a great idea. I will need to rethink it.
