Looking for a partner/developer wanting to get involved in helping immigrants
I'm looking to build a platform for, initially Latinos, to be able to pay international bills. The remittance business is HUGE and in most cases, the receiving party has to go to a lot of trouble of picking up the money that is sent. 80% of that money is sent to pay bills. I want to make it very easy for immigrants to pay bills for their relatives back in their home country. I have already had conversations with service providers in El Salvador and they are open to doing business. (FYI El Salvador is one of the top remittances countries in the world, about 2 million Salvadoreans live in the US alone).
Hey Eric, I grew up in the Dominican Republic. I had a lot of family in the US paying bills for some of my relatives, even though now I'm an American citizen I can relate to the struggle of picking up 20 bucks to then go and pay a bill. I would like to have a conversation about this platform!

Ahh so like the ability to pay bills to another country? Do you have any mockups?
Wouldn’t you be able to build a layer on top of something like TransferWise API so they take of the billing. And then make it easy for users to add payee in various countries. So simply your interface would allow users to add payee:

And attach there US cards, and using transferwise you’d enable them to directly pay automatically at the lowest conversion rates?

Take a look at bubble.io, you should be able to build what a mentioned without a developer or code.
I can think of many ways to create thing with website builders and integormat for an MVP.
Hi Eric, (I'm not a dev :-( ), but I'm working on products in this space, and for that (huge and diverse) market. I'm interested to follow your progress. I think Caribbean expats in the US is a complimentary market to consider because I thought I read somewhere that there are as many expats as there are nationals, with remittance being a big thing.

I don't want to be "that guy," but doesn't Xoom https://www.xoom.com/el-salvador/pay-bills already do this? I learned of them through a Colombian contractor who I believe used it to pay bills.
Hi Zach, thank you so much. Yes I am aware of xoom.com (a paypal company) but there is a difference in vision and in services. XOOM only provides payment of power and mobile phone services. Not water, Gas and other services. Also my vision is to be able to pay for a funeral home, doctors and other services that immigrants pay for their parents in their home country.
Also their service does not provide alerts when a bill is due. Althought that is a service that they can implement easily. .....

Okay, gotcha. Cool, just wanted to make sure you knew of the competition :) Sounds like you're aiming to provide a higher-quality, more targeted version of their service -- nice. I know that I wouldn't be a good fit for this (I don't trust myself with too much money stuff or sensitive data) but I'm glad to hear that you have a niche approach picked out to differentiate yourself in a competitive market :)
