I've just launched a new blog/newsletter for UX/UI/Product Designers where I will be posting true anecdotes from real professional careers of my fellow designers.
I wanted to share my growth strategy... cause it sounds a bit naive to me, yet I don't have a better one. :)
Stage 1 - get initial audience
- Ask designer friends to spread the word (twitter, fb, linkedIn, etc).
- Share on Designer Slack groups I'm a member of.
- Submit stories for feature to already established link aggregator newsletters in the design industry.
- Get in touch with the designers I know in person and ask them to write their own story - validate 3 things - do they want to share their anecdotes, is there a motive (what is the right incentive), and are their stories even any good?
If I can't get good stories from designers other than myself the whole thing falls apart.
Stage 2 - Find writers with existing audience
Note: I don't have an audience on my own, other than on dribbble (which is pretty much useless when it comes to sharing this type of content)
- Once I have some traffic (how much is enough?), reach out to to designers who already have an audience and ask them to share their own story. (what is the right incentive?)
- Leverage the audience of the writers and their own established distribution channels
- By including known designers (other than distribution benefits), drive desire for other designers to share their own story - the biggest incentive is to find yourself amongst these other well known designers.
To summarize, given that I'm starting with 0 audience, the plan is to get to writers who come with their own audience and leverage their existing channels. I can see this being quite effective, but the question is what am I offering in return?
And yeah, here is the first article, so you can get a sense of what I'm talking about. :D https://ytad.club/beware-screen-share-serving-dirty-little-secrets-on-a-plate/
