What if you had a "magic' partner?
They do everything you need help with at the early stage of building a SaaS app.
I'm interested in understanding what a technical founder/co-founders of early stage SaaS apps wish they had the most help with, but open to non-technical opinions as well.
GTM, Outbound Sales, Growth Hacking, Customer Support, Finances, Operations, Funding, something else?
It's really simple, make all the things you just mentioned go away and replace them with paying customers.
That would be magic 🧙
Luckily both technical and non-technical founders/partners want that as the end goal, so at least everyone can find alignment there 😎
Very good question, very difficult to answer. I think this will be based on the individual. It got me thinking!
5 star question. thx for thinking of asking it.
Hi JackSaaS!
Before anything else, I'm not throwing you under the bus here! :-) Your question is actually super relevant and gave me the chance to share my knowledge and learn from others.
Check out my FIRST article on substack, "Looking for a SaaS Magic Partner: The Importance of a Co-Founder": https://wilgott.substack.com/p/the-importance-of-finding-the-right.
Hope you find it helpful!🧙
The "magic partner" you are talking about has another, well-known name... it's "a co-founder". :)))
I think it's not a secret what every founder wants help with (especially a technical one): he or she wanted most somebody to do marketing for them (content marketing, social networking, cold emails, posting everywhere).
It's the biggest pain for everyone (because the "just build and they will come" works in very rare cases).
Appreciate the feedback!
Seems like a lot of technical founders assume PLG is the way to achieve growth, but actually Product Lead Sales (PLS) is how most companies really get to the scale of growth we have seen from companies like Amplitude.
I assume a lot of Indie Hackers start making a product and then realize a “co-founder” who is not technical would help double down on growing the company. How can technical co-founders find and decide who the right partner is for them? Especially without any in their network.
Well, currently I'm trying to grow my startup https://quizai.live . The most challenging thing is to find new customers, and getting the designs done.
Thanks for sharing! As far as growth, what seems to be the most frustrating part for you?
I cannot get users to use the app.
@tramplay have you considered switching out your pricing model to allow the 'curious cats' to have time to play in your app - get some real benefit, aka experience solid benefit.
I see alot of these style apps and the target is more often than not, cash-strapped (studying). 10 free flashcards I never sign up too, as unwittingly communicates the dev in for the money versus really offering a real solution to assist. Care matters. Genuine matters . Especially important if your target can do what your offering for free (albiet a clunky way). If your app does the thing brilliantly then there is much lower risk the signed up user wont be comverted to paying customer. Please consider making the invitation more generous.
