Looking for advice about how to find where my potential users hang out

Hellos IHers!

Now that I've picked my tech stack and started building, I'm brainstorming a plan to acquire customers.

My app is a keyword rank tracker. Basically, enter your website's URL, add some keywords and bam! You'll get daily email reports of where each keyword ranks on the Google (to start, other engines later). That's the MVP. Maybe more features to come later based on user input and interest.

Customer Profile A (moi):

  • I have a few websites that I need to track
  • I'm not an SEO pro
  • I don't want to pay for a fully fledged SEO suite
  • I want daily (I'm ok with weekly) emails of where my keywords stand

Which forums, facebook groups, or communities would you advise me to start getting involved in?

Gracias! (I'm learning Spanish )

Bloggers springs to mind, anywhere where they go to get advice and support. I'd probably aim for the less technical savvy. Smart Passive Income Facebook group, is one that springs to mind. Parent and lifestyle bloggers too, I think ConverKit targeted this audience, maybe search for bloggers who use Convertkit? :)

+1 for Smart Passive Income. Apart from that, you can search for big bloggers and marketing platforms and almost everyone have their communities. Most of them are free to join. But honestly there are so many rank tracking tools so it would be better if you offer something better which they can't. Also, as you are going to ask for their GA access, it is highly important to build enough trust so that they will give access.

Best would be to start making connection with some digital marketing/SEO bloggers now and timely contribute on their blogs and communities so that people know you. Then it would be easier for you to build trust and audience because their audience are your audience.

        Hi @avinashchby!

Yup, that's what I want to find out from my first round of talking to people. What is it that they're not happy with in their current solution.

Also, as you are going to ask for their GA access, it is highly important to build enough trust so that they will give access.

I agree about trust. Though, I'm not planning to ask for GA access. I've written the beta server side version of the tracking tool and at this point I don't see GA access needed unless they would need features to merge their GA data with keyword ranking data. But either way, I'll need to gain the trust of my users.

The first one I thought of joining was Moz, but it's paid and they also provide a similar tool. I think I'll be banned if I start prying into their users' dislikes about the product :(. Can you think of some example communities that might be more open to someone in my situation?

@rosiesherry Thank you so much for the Smart Passive suggestion. It's a great starting point for me. Just to be sure, is this the one (there were a few on there)? https://www.facebook.com/smartpassiveincome/

That't their FB page, you want the group which is fairly active - https://www.facebook.com/groups/spicommunity/

Niche Website Owners, Internet Marketers, Bloggers, Wordpress Niche Site Owners/Authority sites, Affiliate Marketers/Affiliate Site Owners.

    Example: Nichehacks.

Thank you @lpp100! Nichehacks is a great start for me to dig into that universe. By any chance, do you know of any other specific communities that could benefit from such a tool?

umm Facebook Groups should have a lot of potential users/prospects.

Try the Clickfunnels group, cannot think of any right now but just keep trawling the net for people who need to do keyword research especially website owners and internet marketers.

You probably will have to start off manually engaging with individuals who need keyword research. Oh, try SaaS growth hacks. That could be a good one.
