Looking for advice on promoting and attracting visitors to the newly launched site.
One of my friend has launched a very simple website listing the smartphones. He is not getting any traffic so far. What is it lacking, how can it be improved to attract users?

I would start with enriching listings with more content, possibly reviews of each phone. Also maybe start a blog with your opinion on industry news or something similar.
This is great. I would say, a bit of reviews will help.
On the other hand, hopw do you sort this popularity? Any stat source or something?
You must write a few answers on quora and put website link there. you will get a lot of people from there
There is no value for the visitor. The info is readily available on the eCommerce websites. Also, there is no content for SEO.
One method could be to gamify instead of the listing. Ask questions based on the parameter, which will help visitors to choose a phone. e.g. Questions like "Do you need to video-call a lot?", will help decide the MP of the front camera. etc.
Such a page would be shared more and also increase the likelihood of getting clicks on your affiliate links.
What is lacking? Well... Basically, there is no content on the website...
