Looking for advice, should I write on my own website?

Long time lurker here - love the community! I wanted to get some feedback. I am currently running Ghostit.co and our blog is mainly my writing as well as our writing team.

I am considering starting to post more regularly to my own personal website about things I am learning (sales, marketing, etc...) but am wondering if it would be a good use of time considering I could use that time to blog more for the company site bringing in more inbound.

The purpose of my own site would be purely a place to think through things I am working on and use it as a reference if say I want to go back and see my old thoughts on enterprise sales or inbound marketing.

Thanks again in advance!

    Hi hkimia.

Firstly, I would say yes. Writing on your own blog will benefit you and Ghostit.co, especially considering the fact the Ghostit.co provides content services to businesses who would most likely be interested in learning from how you're building the company. This in turn could convince them to buy services from you.

Secondly, and more importantly are the long-term benefits to you personally of building a personal brand. For example, you'll have people coming to you instead of you chasing after them with your sales and marketing (improving the quality of all of your clients).

Unfortunately, in a world riddled with hyped up personal brand guru bullsh*t, I highly highly urge you to be as honest as possible. Instead of positioning yourself as the expert, position yourself as on a journey to becoming an expert. Show your work, even if it's not good. Show how you're improving. It's easy for people to see through the crap, so just be genuine.

    Good luck!

That's a great point! I think I will give it a go with a combination of video and audio. I have always wanted to try something out on YouTube (something like white board Friday or winners and losers by L2).

I do think having my own brand would be beneficial long term as well.

Check our Troy Hunt's series of blogs and videos. Blog for yourself to create an online presence where people can see you're an expert in what you do.

There's business, which is your job, but also self, which is your future success.
