Looking for an app developer to help solve this COVID-19 madness!!
Hi guys,
I am a UI/UX designer in Australia. I am really concerned about what has happened with COVID-19 and the disruption it has done worldwide. I came up with a great idea during a recent Hackaton to develop a proper contact tracing product (I did my research and I understand why many don't work properly). Just, a word of caution: Health & technology experts the world over have already weighed in on this after a lot of study and deliberation, taking into account their years of experience. Consider that they may have made certain choices for important reasons, and that a global pandemic might not be the kind of thing ripe for "disruption," considering there are human lives and health at risk.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I don't want to tell you not to do it, but just strongly consider that if you don't have medical and/or epidemiology education, you might be missing something important. Bootstrapping and iterating until you find fit is great when your product is, say, a developer productivity product, but when it's a medical product, there's more at risk than just wasted time.
Hey Dan, I appreciate your input. But the product I am intended to work on, there are already a few solutions out there for contact tracing apps so it is not like I am disrupting something or creating something new. My intent is to make it better. I researched a bit and talked about this with experts (including doctors) and most important, the final users: the public, and I understood the reason behind the failure of most of these apps. The technology is there but the focus and who is currently working on them is not right atm. Hence why I am looking for a partner to work on a proper product. But thanks for your advice.

Just a heads up, if you're thinking about making any mobile apps related to COVID-19 Apple (and Google) are rejecting them unless they are made by a government organization or well-known Healthcare company. Just do a quick google search for "apple rejection covid19". I found this out the hard way earlier this year.

What??? That is heartbreaking to hear. So unless I am a health startup or government I am doomed? Because one of the findings that I found on my user research is that people are not keen of using government apps as contact tracing tools. They perceive them as a Big Brother.
Yeah it’s unfortunate, the app I made didn’t even directly reference COVID but was social-distancing related and I never got it approved. I even resubmitted it under my friends business developer account and his startup provides employee engagement software for home health agencies so we thought that would be good enough but they still rejected it. I know it sucks to hear but better find out now before building it then afterwards. If you still wanted to do it you’d be better off finding a way of somehow making it a webapp.
Do you have experience with web progressive apps? Maybe that is the way to go. My idea is focused on anonymous contact tracing meanwhile improving mental health, maybe we can join forces 💪
