At Odaiba we are working on making the studying experience more collaborative and social, both offline but more importantly online. To do that we are implementing elements from Pair Programming - having students tackle tasks in groups while taking turns between contributing and supporting. At the moment we are at an early prototype stage for an online platform that allows to collaborate on school assignments with these embedded principles. Despite the early stage we already have some partnerships and MoUs rolling, so we need to develop the platform to production stage in order to lock in the traction. The team behind this project is based in Tokyo, but working fully remote, and is comprised of Paulo (a LW graduate from batch 252-Tokyo with 3 years of experience in different startup roles), David (an educator with 20+ years of experience), and several passionate volunteers from all around the world who have been dedicating their time to turn it into a reality.
We are looking for a third core member who will cover more technical and/or product aspects. The role's title and responsibilities vary based on your background, as detailed below, but in all cases they include taking in a leadership role.
Responsibilities:
-Manage, coach and mentor our dev volunteers
-Be proactive, involved in the product, iterating based on internal tests and client feedback
-Find ways how it can be done, not reasons why it can’t
-Break features into small tasks, to be able to track the progress over time
Shared Requirements:
-A strong desire to improve the education landscape
-Commit a stable and consistent amount of hours each week
-A desire and patience to raise the level of other people
-Ability to match schedule with Japan time zone
CTO Requirements:
-5+ years of experience pushing code to production in a team environment
-Understanding of backend concepts (model/db, design infrastructure, algorithms...)
-Experience or ability to choose and pickup frontend frameworks
VP of Product Requirements:
-2+ years of experience in React, pushing code to production in a team environment
-Knowledge of Node.js and socket.io
-Knack for design, with knowledge of UI/UX principles
-Experience with Figma or similar prototyping softwares
Lead Frontend Requirements:
2+ years of experience in React, pushing code to production in a team environment
-Knowledge of Node.js and socket.io
Preferred:
-Experience in Ruby on Rails, concretely API and Action Cable
-Experience with building apps for tablets
-Experience in pair programming
-Teaching experience or education background
-Understanding of early stage startup dynamics
-Based in Tokyo
-Fluent in Japanese
