Hey there! Looking for dev co-founders to join the news aggregator and article summarization app project that's going to revolutionize the way people consume news 🦄
The idea for MVP is simple - read less, know more. Scrape news articles from various sources, generate short summaries for each article, use algorithms and ranking to personalize user’s feed so they get what they are most interested in. Very simple and clean UI - one article at a time, without the clutter or wordiness. Like TikTok for news.
Post MVP - the sky is the limit. Integrate related opinions from thought leaders (tweets, Substack, etc.), build an entertainment media discovery component and reviews summarization, develop a reader mode to listen to summaries of top stories on the go and so on.
Big things that need to be done:
⁃ News data scraping (sources, headlines, articles, probably can use ready APIs like newsapi or develop own)
⁃ Semantic similarity module (when there are more than one source writing about the same story - can do post MVP)
⁃ Summarisation module (creating a short, concise summary of a news story - probably using ML/NLP/GPT tools)
⁃ Categorisation module
⁃ Summarised news storage
⁃ News ranking algorithm (importance, relevance, views, social media shares, sentiment etc. etc.)
⁃ User feed algorithm
⁃ News API
⁃ User storage (likes/views/shares/etc.)
I suppose that would be python or C++.
In regards to frontend, it’s relatively simple, but I’d rather have a separate person on it. Probably can go with flutter.
The product’s beauty and uniqueness is in the frontend though. Will share more once we chat!

I LOVE the news media industry. But I also hate it. It’s no brainer why it’s become extremely divisive and clickbaity - it had to in order to stay relevant. I wanna build a news product for the next generation. The goal is not to make the most objective source of the news, but rather least biased, most personolised and easiest to digest on the go. While also maximizing unregretted time spent for today’s consumers who have short attention span.
I don’t have a recipe for success, no one does. But my gut tells me this could become a really popular thing and an amazing journey to be a part of! I would love to work with people who are passionate about this kind of tech and have what it takes to build the next level news product 💪🏻

that is one of the worst ideas of implementing AI so far, both socially and technically.
But as this will not stop you from attempting to do it, consider this
Google and Facebook are getting dragged in court in multiple countries for doing exactly what you suggesting, except the not-so-good idea to parse the news true a summarizing algorithm

Technically - it’s been implemented before and successfully. Ground News has a summarization module, Artifact has recently implemented a similar one. Popular Telegram channels with tens of thousands of subscribers have something alike (matter fact 80% of channels content on TG is news). There are plenty of websites that do that. The architecture is straightforward, it’s not a black swan. The difficulty lays in building the inputs and a ranking system for the algorithm. Hard? Yes. Attainable? Also yes.
What I want to do is technically similar, but in a different, fresh and less cluttered format, suited for a modern reader.
Socially - it’s targeted towards audiences with shorter attention span and a desire to capture key ideas quickly and on the go - a perfect news companion for Gen Z & millennials. These are generations who consume and share the most news content yet also despise the current nature and the format of the news the most. Which is why it’s a perfect solution for right here right now.
It is, indeed, LEGAL to scrape and summarize publicly available info. Providing you do not present it as your own creation and reference the sources used (otherwise it’s copyright infringement). A great example of how to do it right is Perplexity AI who have recently raised $26m and launched an iOS app.
In US Facebook and Google were sued over news content due to monopolizing the digital advertising market - different story. In Aus they have reached deals with the publishers. Yeah, perhaps other countries will follow suit, but it doesn’t mean there’s no room to grow and build a new and innovative news product!
But as this will not stop you from thinking it’s a bad idea, consider this

so you are actually aware of the technical challenges in doing this (practically the reason I'm calling it one of the worst ideas technically), in that case, you are attempting to scam someone into working for free on something that is practically impossible without a significant amount of financial resources and manpower to gather, classify and maintain a training database and verify / moderate the output of the algorithm? (rhetorical question, in case it is not clear)
The worst idea socially, I think you did a very good job describing most of the reasons why it is so bad, but in general reducing news to a few sentences and removing the context from them is bad for the people that report on the news and for the people that consume the news.
as for Google & Facebook, they are in trouble because they pick up the news articles and copy the contents into their own feeds (and present a summary of them to their users) and in the process cut off the news organizations from receiving traffic to their websites, resulting in a reduction in income and infringement of the copyrights of the authors. How legal it is, in the US everything is legal if you are doing it before the law catches up with you, I mentioned it as it already started to catch up in Australia, Canada and EU.
but then again, if you create a bubble around you definitely miss some things and start thinking that terrible ideas may be actually good as you trained yourself to ignore things that don't agree with you.

Yes, I’m aware of the technical difficulties, just like any expert developer would be aware what they’re signing up for. I’m also aware of the existing APIs that could be used to deploy and test the MVP rather fast without a significant burn rate. Offering someone a partnership with a clear definition is far from a scam 🫠
Now.. back to the “worst idea socially”. Today, most of the “news” content you see in your feeds is publishers rewriting preexisting pieces published by someone else and diluting them with emotional context, biases and fallacies. Yes, this is PRECISELY what I want to get rid off with this product, combat media bubbles and offer a summary of a diverse perspectives. Once again, I highly encourage you to explore what Artifact has implemented with their summarization module and also Ground News. It’s already happening and there’s a growing interest among news consumers for that specific approach. By providing a summary you’re not removing context but rather provide a quick and easy way for people to stay informed on the subjects that interest them.
As for FB and Google, that is factually incorrect. What Australian law has put forward to is for big tech companies to share part of their ad revenue with media publishers. It has nothing to do with copyright infringement but rather Aus government trying to find a subsidy source for the legacy media.
As for the “legal in US” comment… well the playfield changes all the time. No business or idea is 100% secure from economic or legal changes beyond its control. You adapt and keep going or die. Just like legacy media will have to adapt to accommodate successful players in the industry to stay relevant. The reality is - consumers spend less and less time on the news source websites and more time on aggregates. I believe it to be an opportunity to do something useful and unique, while still driving plenty of traffic to news content creators.
