I've been working for several years in the world of water analytics, forestry and the classification of human influenced landscapes. I've built statewide landscape classifications for everything from tiny municipalities to national governments. Who we're looking for is someone to partner with who is a capable front end developer who has some experience with geospatial data. The idea were trying to bring to market is a sort of spatial survey for how people use their personal spaces.
Hi Aron, very interesting project, who would be the customers for this?
Adding to that, how would they use this product? What is its value?
Hey! Great Questions. We look at this project as having 2 sets of customers. The first set is individual water users (home owners/ residents/ renters) who want to know or explore more about how water is used in their space, or are being asked to fill out a survey regarding their water use.
The second customer would be water districts and state agencies that want to know in greater detail how people are using water in specific ways. This is a super critical use case, because as of now, there is a huge amount of uncertainty in how precisely people use their water. We more or less know what is getting to some ones house, but once it they pay for it, its quite unclear where it goes. There is legislation going through at the moment that prescribes a 20% reduction in outdoor water use across the state; however, its still not clear exactly how people are using their water at an individual home-owner level. The idea would be to send out a mailer/ or e-mail requests to residents within a region to participate in the survey on behalf of a district or agency. These data would be collated and QC'd and resold to the district or agency.
Hi Aron,
This sounds like a super fun project! I have 2 years in the front end web development space working mostly with react. No geospatial data experience but if you're willing to I would love to set up a call or dm and to see if it's something I would be a good fit for!
This is great! Do you want to e-mail me and we can set something up? I have one other partner involved in this project at this time. His background is in back-end development, and workflow management. Both of us have a strong background in GIS and geospatial data management, however, neither of us are primarily front end people. I think you would be a great compliment to our team.
