Looking for feedback on my idea

I got an idea about creating a search engine for detailed analysis of your competitor in the market. Suppose you have a startup then you can keep yourself updated about the competitions. What do you think about this idea kindly share your views.

For me it doesn't need to be a search engine. As Scott mentioned, a report would be much more viable.

E.g. a report you could take into a monthly meeting and demonstrate what the competitors are doing.

I spent a year at KPMG back in the day working in strategy and competitive intelligence. Companies certainly will pay for this type of day.

Getting started, how would this be different then setting up Google notifications? And/or following their blogs/social media?

Does it really need to be a search engine? Could it just be a daily, weekly, monthly report?

Thanks for your feedback. Initially I will start this service as a weekly newsletter, so that the users will get some detailed analysis report directly in their inbox and they don't have to worry about visiting website on a regular basis. The website of course contains some in-depth reports which user have full access anytime they want without any cost.

One thing to consider is how finely do you want your subscribers to define their competitors. An industry level analysis is somewhat interesting but very different to detailed research on the specific set of companies that you are directly competing against.

The other play would be a service to help companies to uncover and catagorize their real competitors. ‘Yes you are in this industry however these are the specific products/companies that you are competing against.

There are companies that do such research but most are big consulting companies unaffordable to most people. e.g. KPMG as mentioned in other answer.

Instead of search results you could your findings into a compile report/newsletter.

Check this company does something similar https://tracxn.com/reports . They provide sector wise reports .

You could do it for one sector. eg payment wallets - a subscriber gets a periodic news letter about all the competitor launches or newer versions , new features etc. That will save him lot of research and time.
