Looking for feedback on my Love to Work initiative / newsletter / course
Hi Everyone,
I'm an organizational psychology consultant working in London/NY for the last 12 years, helping companies with their internal employee engagement and experience programs. I have always wanted to complete a PhD. in my field, but finances have held me back. As a compromise, I decided to start my own research project. I began interviewing people who love their work to find out what factors help them to get there. We discuss everything from finding their passion to flexible working, relationships with co-workers to why work matters to mental health.
I realized there was a lot of value in people hearing directly from the interviewees, so I started to edit the interviews into shorter podcast episodes, which have begun to get some traction. As a trained practitioner in this field, I found that I was hearing people talk about obstacles they've overcome that can be related to common psychological strategies and approaches.
With all of this insight, I decided to develop an online course to help other people to find work they love by learning how to get past these common issues and develop a Medium newsletter for those with specific problems. Every couple of weeks, I release a newsletter about a particular type of problem, with strategies and guidance on how to overcome it. I would love your feedback on the newsletter.

Regarding my course, I'm unsure if it would make sense to host on my letslovetowork website or to sell it on Udemy. Does anyone have any guidance, links, posts on indie hacker that would be a useful guide here?

I have been fortunate enough that a colleague at the University of London reviewed my course for free to help her to shape her offering. She is planning to start a business reviewing and guiding people on course development using her over 10+ years of university teaching experience. She gave me positive feedback saying my expertise shone through and that she would have found the course very helpful when she was mapping her career path a few years ago.
I would love some thoughts on the whole idea/initiative.

Hi there, thank you for your question. I just checked this out, and you're quite right. I can do both! That makes a massive difference to my offering, so thank you for asking that question.
I can certainly share more about the course. The next post I'm setting up on my Medium page gives a good insight into what will feature in module 2 – Exploring where you are now – section of the course. It's grounded in a psychological approach called Flow (the zone), and it helps you to understand better what drives you at work through 'on task questions' that catch you in the moment, as well as questions that review your skills and motivations in retrospect. Looking at experiences as they are happening gives you deeper insights than only looking back on them.
I am also thinking about offering a coaching services as a follow-on post-course completion. I'm currently in training for the qualification because, although I have a masters in the field and years of consulting, I think its important like to have the official credentials to back it up. Do you think people would be looking for that more detailed focus and support after a course? I'm not sure if perhaps it's a bit much to charge for a course and follow-up services too.

I think offering follow-up coaching that is more tailored to the individual would certainly be helpful and a great way for you to continue the relationships and your practice once the courses end. It doesn't hurt to put that offer out there, and then if people are interested, you can determine if you have the space to work with them 1:1.
