Copterlist - Compare and Find the Best Drone for You!
Howdy, I'm looking for some feedback and early testers for my latest website that helps you filter through drones. Some questions I'd love answered:
Would you use the site when looking to buy a drone? Why/why not?
Are there features you feel are missing?
Are there data points you feel are missing?
If you're interested in a high-level overview of what went into building the site you can check out the IH post here - https://www.indiehackers.com/@jimmyjazz/building-copterlist-my-new-sideproject-to-help-you-find-cool-drones-e38bde6f5d
I totally agree with Amin this does seem like you are the retailer. Maybe add common things from price comparators like the number of stores found, min and max price.
The list might be pretty overwhelming depending on who you are targeting. Ever considered having a quick buy guide as a lead magnet?
The rest seems good or good enough at this early stage, great job!
This comes across like a retailer's product category page than a comparison tool. Not sure if the filter system is enough to get the information required for purchasing decisions.
Maybe you can use the products' amazon ratings? Maybe you can get drone enthusiasts to write reviews?
Thanks for the feedback!
Can't use amazon ratings in anyway since that's against t.o.s.
I would like to steer towards more crowd sourced data though, including reviews. But that wasn't something I wanted to build into the first version because it might take away from the main focus of finding a drone to buy.
When clearing the filter , values are not reset. (Mobile Chrome)
Interesting approach, functionality over content. Most projects of this type ( affiliate, product reviews ) is based on ranking top3 on Google... How do you plan to acquire users?
I think there’s lots of similar content sites out there saying the same thing so I wanted to do something different and eventually use this tool as a means to create content.
The next step is using the data to build more dynamic content like comparisons between brands/ drones, showing drones in specific niches like a certain weight category.
Long tail SEO will play an important role as well when I have detailed profiles on each drone.
I want to experiment with paid marketing, but the main goal is slowly building up a community of interested drone buyers through tools like the Wishlist, rather than one of purchasers since it’s more common for people to buy many drones as the tech advances
Edit: and thanks for the bug! The filter menu is still causing some grief
Makes sense to build the comparisons on auto pilot. You can always jump in and create additional crowd sourced content If one comparison or single drone page gets bigger ammount of organic search traffic.
Also having such an elaborate search / comparison tool sets you apart from the other SEO content-only Pages
Just sent the page to a drone Fan I know...
Good luck!
Appreciated! If they have feedback they’re welcome to message me.
The next step after cleaning up bugs is definitely crowd sourced ratings. Most of the data is available on Amazon so next step is curating extra information to be a more valuable source
