Hello, I launched a side project I've been working on, Recall Monitor which notifies users about Canadian product recalls and safety alerts.
It's my first attempt at this, and I'm finding it hard to get honest feedback from people I know.
Would love to hear what you think, does it seem trustworthy and something you might use?
Cheers!
Have you tested the landing page to display the most recent recalled product? (which will further link to the recalls list) It would also be helpful to use product images.
I think it would be a more powerful approach compared to the sliders since it provides visitors with a glimpse of what your service offers.
Would also like to suggest data visualizations and more informative imagery, use of hierarchy and layout to highlight more important information (product name, recall date, recall reasons)
You have a very promising project and would love to see it go further!
Thanks a lot for the kind encouragement and great ideas! I don't have many visitors yet, so did not do much experimentation but I love the idea of putting most recent (or at least just recent "important") product on the slider.
I am planning to add some viz around products, but trying to figure out a scalable way as firestore is not very conducive to analytics type queries.
Much appreciated!
you could be a bit more pushy with the pain points, right now you are talking about it in a passive or bland way, just to "protect" yourself.
you could put some numbers to make it sound more ominous, im sure the total number of recalls per year should be on the hundreds range.... you could say something like: last year more than 300 products were recalled, were you exposed to them?
bar code scanner sounds like a terrific feature... that could drive subscriptions... its very focused and relieve pain in a key moment.
hey just for curiosity what's the benefit of the historical data?
Thank you, you're right about the passive approach and using numbers to push the urgency is a great idea.
I'm excited about the barcode scanner, in the process of creating a poc right now.
For historical data I was thinking of doing like a list of big offenders/brands to avoid sort of thing, not sure if it's so valuable though.
hey, ebemunk!
My two cents:
I would not recommend using slideshow navigation in your hero section, as users rarely will click through it to see the hidden information. Better would be to prioritise the content and include the most relevant data right away, without hiding it.
Also sections below the fold, needs more breathing space, add some padding to top and bottom, that way you give user more pleasant experience and better readability.
Lastly overwhelming users with too many options (see 8 CTA's on front page) can cause "analysis paralysis" when users wont convert as expected rate. Again right prioritisation and use of CTA buttons on strategically chosen locations will benefit your click through score.
Good luck with your product!
Thanks, will definitely consider these points. All the CTAs go to the same place but I know what you mean. On mobile, because of the content's length I tried to place one every "screen height". On desktop it might've been way too much.
Hey this looks awesome and it is a project I would use if it was available for the US. Any plans on launching there ?
A couple of minor things:
2.I think if you had a dedicated baby section in instead of consumer section, that would make a lot of people happy. I know many people that only started caring about recalls once they had a child .
One question: what did you use to build the landing page ? I like it a lot in general.
Thank you for the feedback! I want to explore the US once I can be confident this product can stand on its own.
Good point about the scroll position, I think I need to handle that.
The baby section suggestion definitely makes sense, I will think about ways to put that in as well!
As for your question, the landing page and the app isn't separate, its just 1 app made with React. Thanks for your kind words and suggestions!
Great Product! You are solving a real problem.
All the best!
Awesome! That last point is a great idea and a nice showcase of pragmatic thinking! Thanks a lot for your feedback.
You are welcome! It could also be/in addition with SMS as well. A/B Testable.
Cheers!
This is an okay start, what are your competitors doing?
The landing page is pretty clear. My only issue is spacing and text size. The text isn't consistent throughout. For example, the text "Children, the elderly, those with allergies and weakened immune systems are all at risk of being adversely affected by products that might be recalled." is much smaller than the text under "Protect yourself".
And I think the bullet point items need more space. They're too bunched together.
The landing page seems trustworthy especially since you added a page that lists recalls.
I don't think I would pay for a service like this.
Thanks, I appreciate your feedback, exactly what I was looking for.
Yeah, the link is broken. I supposed it was https://recallmonitor.ca/ .
Now for my feedback, first the methodology, you should ask more precise question on what you expect from the user / us to answer, like "If you bought a television in the last 3 weeks and you come to the webpage, do you know where to click to find the reference of your television to know if a recall of it is under going?" or "What is from your opinion the general idea of the website?"
My personal free opinion on the landing page is the message is pretty clear. I understand that it's about getting alerts on recalls objects, and it's targeting mostly the business / companies.
On the design part, I see lots of errors on the spacing. Too bad because the illustrations are nice.
And I feel a lack of interaction with the user. I don't know what are the actions I should do when I land on the page. Which buttons to click, if any? Is it just an information page or do you want to engage with the user and drive him to certain action?
Thanks a lot, and i really appreciate the time you took for this feedback!
I fixed the broken link now.
Your points give me lots to think about, especially with regards to the interactivity with the user, out what I'm asking them to do. I was thinking the "Learn more" style buttons will entice then to go to the pricing/signup page, but your point about asking more specific questions is great.
Thanks for looking over!
Your link is broken
Sorry, messed up my markdown, should be working now
