I'd love to hear if you have success using the above method, and if you don't I'd love to hear why! I have been using this problem search method and it has been very eye-opening. Is there a problem space you want to start exploring and finding real-world problems? Let me know and I'd love to help in your search.
I've already tried a similar approach, and, for sure, it can give interesting ideas.
The only problem I saw that prevented me from going further with this approach was that I find the ideas I found using this method were in general very limited in scope: "Building a very specific plugin to solve a very specific problem".
That's what I did with my chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/drive-direct-download/mpfdlhhpbhgghplbambikplcfpbjiail
It works pretty well, got a lot of traction quickly, but, it's hard to monetize, as it's focused on a very specific problem.
Thanks for the feedback! When doing your search, we're you searching for people asking for extensions on Google Chrome? One aspect I might recommend is extrapolating further upon the problem to see if it can be generalized (however, as mentioned, sometimes tightly scoped problems can still make money). For example, the tweet found with the method about focused slack conversations could be generalized to specialized third party clients for different channels (customer channel, marketing channel, sales channel, etc) without having to open slack.
Tried this out yesterday, didn't really help much to be honest. 🤔 There was just so much noise, I found it hard to synthesise any insights.
the world is an inspiration. twitter is just one network to source from!
