Looking for marketing advice

Hi fellow Indie Hackers!

As I mentioned on my products page (see https://www.indiehackers.com/product/whatsonflix/launched-in-the-us--MCw0QVoKJFU6jQ9ZAfZ) I've just completed the US launch for my mobile app.

After some months of hard work, it's finally available. The app was originally released back in 2018, but only for German speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). It took way more time to prepare it for the international market, as anticipated. You can read about the "why" a little bit here: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/whatsonflix/starting-private-beta-for-us-rollout--MCQxrEiEZtxvafF8qKr

But back to topic. In Germany I was able to reach out to some tech blogs before the official launch in 2018. Some of that guys were interested in the app, so I could build a small group of bloggers, that posted reviews about my app. That helped a lot, to gain some traction and to get my very first users, beside my family and friends.

Now I tried to achieve the same for the US, but with no luck so far. I've tried to connect to a few tech sites, that had written about Netflix and Apps in the past, but only one tech site even responded to my offer to join a closed beta group to have access to the app before it's released. It looks like bloggers in the US doesn't care much about having a look at some product, before it's available. Or my english is so bad, that they just had no idea what I was offering.

I would really love to get connected to some bloggers, that could be interested in reviewing my app. Do you have any ideas, on how to reach out or where to find? Maybe anyone here, that could help?

In case you're located in the US and wants to check the app out, you can find it right here:

I can recommend you some bloggers but the point here is whats the use for them?

@wonderwoman Thanks for your feedback! English isn't my native language, so I may get you wrong, but from my perspective, every blogger needs to have content to write about. Content that fits to his audience. So if Netflix is something the blogger usually writes about, no matter if it's because of some helpful apps or to give recommendations regarding a specific movie or series, my app could be handy to him and his readers.

Thats one way to look at it. Other way is .... if they blogger already has a good audience they will have no problem in writing content. In case of this situation they will charge for promotion.

In case of others you can offer to guest post.

Let me know what you think

Interesting point of view. Maybe you're right about that, too. But I find it irritating.

As a blogger, if he reports about Netflix and apps in general, my app is a natural fit and fits the blog in an authentic way. That would be in my eyes a Review, with which the blogger creates added value for his readers (= information) and for himself as well (= content). From the content the blogger generates advertising revenue again.

The situation is different if the blogger does not normally report on Netflix or apps. Then it might not be a natural fit. In such a case, a promo article would be quite conceivable. It must then of course show how well the target group generally agrees. But it should be possible to evaluate the corresponding data using analytics (what country do the readers come from, how old are they on average, what interests do they have, ...). Depending on the reach, one can and should of course talk about it.

So if you know some bloggers, that fit in either category, I'm interesting in discussing it further, for sure. Talking to each other is always good anyway. :-)
