Released a product today and am looking for my first ever sale. Will you please read my process and let me know if I’m on the right track?
When working on various web app projects, I refined a boilerplate code base that I could use to get new ideas up and running quickly.
I thoroughly documented the codebase in such a way that if I ever took a long break, I could easily relearn what I was up to. There is more educational commentary than lines of code. There is no “magic” functionality left unexplained, or chalked up to “that’s just how you set this open source module up”. Everything is explained in great detail, but still concisely.
It occurred to me that others might benefit from this codebase and tutorial. I know that the market for fullstack tutorials and boilerplates is quite saturated. Having said that, I’ve read many times not to shy away from a developed market as many products of a similar nature can flourish simultaneously.
I have a channel on YouTube of programming tutorials. My most popular video has 120k views. There are hundreds of positive comments giving thanks for the correct, clear and concise explanation that finally clicked. No 20 minute video and the viewer still doesn’t get it. I would hate to brag and so on but, I’m not too bad at this type of content! https://youtu.be/xHneyv38Jro
My YouTube audience, who enjoyed my content, doesn’t know me or my product. They searched for assistance, found it, and carried on. I included links to my product in the video descriptions, as well as on pinned comments. Not enough time has passed to know how effective that will be at converting YouTube views to product views.
I’ve listed my product for sale on gumroad because they have a “discovery” functionality, similar products have succeeded there, and the sales commission they take must incentivize them to sell my product.

I’ve also taken out ads on Reddit’s “learn programming” forum. Let’s try everything that makes basic sense, I figure.
Maybe this idea is a redundant, steaming pile of you-know-what! I don’t know. I know that if someone wants to learn to build web apps my product will help them tremendously. I don’t very well know how to introduce those people to my product, how many they are, how to present it in a compelling fashion, and etcetera. I’d appreciate any opinions you might have, if you don’t mind. Thanks!
Do you have a main site / landing page with features and screen shots of what is included?
