TL;DR at bottom
So this is an idea I had for a few years. I can't really find anything like it, so I don't know if this is actually worth doing. I am buildings this right now, since I am a professional web developer if nothing else, it's at least a possibility to learn new things. So here it is:
I want to use the tons of travel and landscape and aerial videos out on vimeo/youtube in full size. Each time you hit the landing page you get a random video. You can keep watching it, pick another category or choose to have a look at the map where one or more POI (or just countries) highlighted in the videos are marked.
Then it will have a Booking.com API to check hotels nearby (maybe also marked on the map) and some Flights API to get a flight there. Revenue will be done via the API integration of these services on an advertisement base for these services.
This could later be developed to include things like weather forecast, nearby POI (from trip advisor or similar), etc.
I know with Covid around it's not the best time for this, but then again, once this is all getting better, people will start to look forward to traveling again. And this way I have no pressure time wise.
TL;DR An app highlighting travel videos with a map next to it showing rough locations/country shown in the video integrating Booking.com API and a Flight API to get ad revenue from these.
My initial thoughts are "mhhh..", but if you can get the experience right that it's an actual enjoyable site on it's own and not just feel like an affiliate mid page than maybe but the focus would probably need to be around experiencing a place and not just poi
My idea was something simple like this:
Of course the whole booking part is not in there but it would only be visible once you click show map and then maybe also only below the map somewhere so it's not that much in your face.
I definitely do not want to make it all cluttered with ads.
Mmm... So who likes this style? Is it for photography, finding locations?...
Like common tourism is more about culture, food, shopping, activities and just a bit about views, like if the activity is Hocking...
Think of specific customers ahead of the features
cause I mean if it's good for film production you might be able to make a paid product/features, and they might be more specific to location types of scenes around somewhere, or find a collection of them...
If it's just entertainment, generic ads might work better than the tourism affiliates
if it's for hikers, you might get more revenue from hiking gear or skiing stuff around the right sites...
