Looking for tech co-founder for Barter based platform

Hi! I'm the founder of BarterBetter (barterbetter.co). I would love to find a technical co-founder. Formerly based in SF and former Stripe, currently in Dallas --> Austin. Location is not important and looking to build a remote friendly team. Right now I have 100% equity.

Bartering is the oldest form of commerce. You can barter today on Craigslist! But it's not top of mind, often sketchy, and requires significant coordination - so most don't. It's hard to do.

With cash, you lose value and time converting in and out of cash to get the things you want and need. But there is no easy way to safely trade.

BarterBetter aims to build an online marketplace that connects individual/commercial barterers through a trade exchange. We will take bartering from the back alleys and bring it to the homepage. The platform will have a flat monthly rate and low per trade fee to build in trust & safety by verifying barterers.

This platform has the opportunity to build an entirely new e-commerce experience based solely on trade. This could also create new economic onramps, but we need to build it first!

I’m looking for someone to help me develop a more robust marketplace offering than I can create on Sharetribe, bubble.io, Wix, etc. Specifically every commerce experience requires an exchange of money. Period. We’ll need to start from the ground up. Let me know if you’re interested in joining! Email in bio or hello at danikabuilt.com.

Sounds like an interesting idea. have you been to BarterTown at the center of burning man? I've heard of similar ideas in the past like barter bucks, But my understanding is that they hit problems to do with taxation on exchanges of goods and services, because the government saw that as a way to avoid tax. Crypto may give some options for the currency.
There are also lots of different auction models, in game theory there are many different models than the conventional eBay system.
How will you get around these problems: Currency, liquidity, fractional sales and tax?

I haven't been to burning man, so first time hearing about BarterTown. Would love to learn more. There are definitely tax issues, in addition to needing to be a 3rd Party Record Keeper but I'm starting off good:good, so that alleviates initial taxation concerns b/c the items have already been purchased - and taxed. I know it will be a process to add on services - and tax responsibilities at that point. I'm not launching with crypto but my friend was talking to me about Ripple the other day and I'd be open to it down the road.

I'm curious to hear about the other auction models in game theory. Share a link if you have something - I'm still working that out.

Also happy to chat more about all of the above (hello at danikabuilt.com) - some I have solutions for, some are sitting in the parking lot staring at me....

Pleasure to connect, not on the technical side but I read your post and links and thought it looked interesting. I am focused on the business & financial strategy / cap raising side. Happy to chat if you're running into any needs in those areas! aaron@argentstrategies.com

Hi, so are you basically looking to set up something like BarterCard? https://bartercard.com/

Yes but for individuals geared towards trading everyday items. This is similar to BizX in the US but I had not heard of them. Thanks for sharing!

Just out of curiosity, why would bubble not suffice for your MVP? Nothing I see here can't be built using bubble.

While bartering looks and feels like a normal marketplace, it's effectively a payment method + multi-sided game. So a ledger, dispute system, virtual currency, and virtual economy need to be created to facilitate trade. I plan to do this manually but it will not scale. But I'm doing both at the same time and making my way through bubble and sharetribe.
