Looking for validation of my idea for software teams

I have an idea for a tool for software teams.

The problem is how to efficiently share information.

No on likes writing documentation, and often the nicest way to learn something as a new starter is have someone show you.

However having the same person show lots of people the same thing, giving the same talk, covering the same ground is time consuming.

My solution to this is to provide an inspring platform for teams to create, share and organize videos.

The idea is that when someone onboards someone, they record it. Everyone has a camera and Zoom or similar software these days, so that is no extra effort.

Then the platform lets you upload these and share.

And when there are enough videos, it will help you organize them into mini courses, and help your team seach for videos by both the title and possibly even the transcribed content.

In addition the platform will allow you to record within it (if you don't want to use another tool and upload) and do some basic editing jobs, like trimming off the first few minutes if it is just people chatting about their weekend.

The story behind the idea is I have seen some benefit in doing this in the past, where videos were created almost 'by accident' and were useful. But it was a pain to host them.

Want to get thoughts on this topic.

So I ask you to do one of two things: 1. PM me to get early access and bribing me because it is desperately what you want :-) 2 ... or more likely ... tell my why you wouldn't want to do that, why isn't this quite a fit for you.

If I were evaluating a product, as a consumer I'd be thinking about ok why don't I want to use Loom for this (I've used it for such walkthroughs before and save it in an onboarding folder). That's not a knock against the idea, I am just saying that as a potential user I'd be figuring out why I should try this new product vs sticking with what I know – how can it help me do a particular job (small courses on specific workflows or onboarding) way better than Loom can? If the product can answer that I think you could be on to something.

I had not heard of Loom. It is a nice idea as it distills my idea down to the minimum. I will give it a try at work. Using a competitor as an MVP!

From what I understand your idea falls in the category of an LMS (Learning Management System). I haven't done lots of research on the topic but that keyword might be useful for you: LMS

Building software for tech, is a shortcut to the real lessons of software sales. The true professionals build software for non tech industries.

Can you elaborate? Are you saying it is a harder sell?

  4. 1

Who do you see as competitors in this space?

    1. 2

Companies that provide developer oriented documentation tools. There was a YC company that recently revealed a product like this.

OneNote / Confluence etc. But they are complementary offerings too. You might use my idea and those at the same time.

I am not so worried about competition but of apathy. Like teams not seeing much value.
