Looking for validation - PM software recommendations

Hi Guys,
Just found this site and think that its an incredibly motivating platform. This is the first time I am writing here.

I am currently working as a Customer Success Manager with a SaaS company that provides Project Management modules (amongst others). My role, apart from assisting existing and potential customers, requires me to give out demos as well. The role also requires me to research other project management products and see what our competitors are doing, and how we can improve. I have been giving demos to our potential clients for about 18 months now (give or take) and feel that I now have the ability to give pretty good suggestions/ recommendations based on the customer's requirements.

This made me ask myself, why not launch a site, where teams could give me their requirements and (after some research), I can give them recommendations on which platform would suit them best.

It makes sense to me because there are literally thousands of PM software out there and none of them fits all businesses. If you are thinking Capterra, then its not an ideal solution, as it shows you other platform's ranking/ comments depending upon the needs of other customers(which again, may be completely different), so they are not always helpful.

Also, I know for a fact that there are always 2-8 people from any team spending hours of their time researching as many tools as they can, and after 6 months or so, they realize it was not the one. So, it's a lot of time wasted if the research is not done correctly.

I found our that SoftwareAdvice.com does the same thing and that too for free. Which is what has stopped me in my tracks.

Would really appreciate some feedback on if this idea may or may not work.

Thanks!

Hey there! First of all it sounds like you're pretty great at your job if you're already figuring out how to productise your role!

From what you've said, there's clear demand for the service you're talking about. Your challenge will be figuring out your distribution strategy - i.e. how do you find your customers? Organic search is going to be tough as keywords like "best project management software" will be highly competitive. However, given that you're talking to your target audience all day long as a customer success manager then you've got a great opportunity to find a niche that others may not have uncovered.

Obviously you don't want to have a conflict of interest with your current job but is there a way you could potentially start a newsletter talking about project management software? Could you start subscribing the people you're talking to your newsletter? This could be a great way to build an audience for your site.
