Hey guys! I'm looking to form a small group of people that would keep each other accountable for not wasting too much time on social media and getting things done.
The group would be small because it's a lot more effective when you actually know everyone in the group and have a personal connection. If it's a large community, you can just disappear and no one would notice!
We could hold ourselves accountable for different things:
And we could even function as social media firewalls for each other - we could rest without opening Reddit and whatever else because we knew if something really important had happened, someone else in the group would find out and tell the others.
I even thought of scaling this up to more people, though keeping the group sizes small. Humans need to identify with people in order to feel a personal connection, so we would have to make use of that tribal instinct for this: Someone interested in joining one of these groups would present themselves to the whole community, and then groups that together decided they identified with that person would communicate their interest in having that person join their small group. The newcomer would then choose between all the groups that demonstrated interest.
There could be a tendency for the groups to be too homogeneous, but that would be up to the people in the groups not to choose only people of the same sex/race/culture. I know this is a sensitive topic, so I'm open to ideas! I wouldn't like the idea of enforcing choices but there could be better options to prevent too much homogeneity.
Anyway for now I'm looking to set up a small group like this for me to participate in, the scaling idea could be worked on later if the concept seems to work 😄
