Losing control over my todo list - Weekly backlog 2020/05

For almost a year I used an Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize my tasks. In the beginning, 80% of the things were urgent and important. I thought that this is totally normal if you are working at an agency where your daily work is driven by crazy deadlines and extremely high client expectations. I learned the hard way that it's a straight road to burnout. This time, I want to go in a different direction.

Last week I realized that I can’t maintain and support 8 products at the same time. Even though some of them are just vegetating (I'm not promoting or adding any new functions to them) sometimes they still need my attention. For example, on Tuesday I discovered that someone was using the payment system in one of my apps for shady activities.

Previously, something really similar happened on CreativeDevJobs.com and after that, I hardened my other apps as well. Still, I had to take a look at this and spend some time on it. There was no serious user activity in this app in the past couple of months and I decided at the beginning of January to rethink the basics of it (basically I'll rewrite the whole thing) so I closed it to decrease the number of plates I'm holding in my hand. I hope this helps a bit to get back on track with my time because the number of my unfinished tasks is just getting bigger and bigger and I don't want to reach a point when I just don't want to look at it. I've been there already and I didn't like it :D

For this week, (besides my freelance projects) I'll focus on one thing: publish the result of The Maker Report. Luckily, I got some help from my girlfriend so all I have to do now is to finish the sitebuild and create the necessary design assets.
