Lost motivation

I haven't worked on my side hustle since COVID started and I have lost some serious motivation. I don't want to give up on it.... Just don't know where to start on everything that needs doing.

Is anyone else in this boat? Major loss of motivation to get anything done.

Hey, that's okay, first of all. It happens to the best of us. I don't know if this will work or not but do this,

Daydream. Yes, Dream about what you want in life, what the future might look like for you. Imagine yourself in the most luxurious place or the stage you want to reach in next 5 or 10 years. Literally, Enjoy that dreaming.

And then realise, you to have achieve that and you have to work for it. To make it all happen.

You have to find your intrinsic motivation. I watched a video on Santana and how early on during his college years, he had decided to become a musician and everyone made fun of him. He had already made up his mind, I was meant to do this for the rest of my life. I am going to do everything I can to master this skill and dedicate the rest of my life to it and enjoy doing it.

So what is the ONE thing that you are going to do for the rest of your life? What ignites your passion? How can you spread joy to others through your work? Can you take away pain in people's lives through your work?

You have to spend a few days thinking and asking yourself these questions.

We all have high and low days. Just sink into it and log how you generically feel... that way you can hold yourself accountable if you feel low for too many days in a row. Also, burnout is a real thing. I always find I am much more motivated after going for a walk or doing some sort of physical activity.

When I lose motivation to do something I start to break it to small tasks and add them to a Todo list. Because mentally I like to see my progress. So It's a way to motivate me.

    Hey Rebecca
I think that's fairly normal especially considering everything that's going on and I've DEFINITELY been in the same boat.

I think you have two options:

    1. Allow yourself a guilt free break

Sometimes you just need to take some time away from a project for yourself. Work on something else or don't do any work at all. There's nothing wrong with that. The guilt free part is important because otherwise it becomes a cycle of you making yourself feel bad about not getting work done and that will never motivate you.

    1. Just sit down and do the work

If you really think you're just being lazy (only you can judge that) then you have to sit down and make yourself start on something. I always find once I start I can get into a flow even if I really wasn't in the mood to do the work.
