So I have shared this page with various channels and for every impression we only get about 10% sign-ups, any tips on how we can get more people signing up?
Also any notes about if the concept is easy to understand, if the page is simple or any other learnings would be much appreciated :)
Work on your main message, without overthinking and guessing I don't know what this is and why would I want it and if it's for me...
Great points! I immediately thought of the couch surfing you linked to.
Check page for mobile.
for iPhone 6, I am unable to see all content, with this you will have a high bounce rate.
Hey team, just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the feedback.
This has definitely helped me improve the page and hopefully results in more sign-ups. I have spent some time grouping together all the feedback and will be implementing the changes!
Will share the updated page in a couple of days! Once again, thanks for all the feedback and I'll respond to all your comments directly too.
I must say that the concept is impressive. Also I understood from the copy what the service is about in less than 5 seconds. That's possibly the reason why you get so many impressions.
That said, this is not a pressing problem for which one would like to share email id and sign up. If I were a visitor, I'd want proof before signing up for it. More importantly, the real test for such a tool would be- how easily it can find shows that are uncommon. For example, if I want to watch Friends or Silicon Valley, just a Google search would be enough- why do I need to sign up for a service?
Your landing page also doesn't highlight the language for which this tool works.
Also wondering how would you monetize something like this? I'd hope you have a affiliate model in mind, in which case you can make this tool freely accessible and do away with the signing up part.
The landing page is not great. Whoever designed it probably did it on a 2-4k monitor - Which means on a 1080p screen it looks awful in terms of sizing.
Your call to action is right at the top before the value proposal, doing the ask before the commit, ok bit random, not to mention the CTA is the smallest thing on the page apart from the footer.
"Sign up at the top to get a VIP invite to our limited beta launch and refer your friends.
The more referrals you get, the higher you move up the list!"
Pyramid marketing is bad bad bad - You don't want to sound like a scam artist here - Don't confuse the users just get them to opt in and give other offers down the line.
Also what is a VIP invite to a beta product?
Couch surfing is about finding a place to live surely? Sleeping on someone else's couch?
Finally, why is it just Harry Potter? Get some more recent material, what is trending on Netflix/Amazon today?
I actually have something like 4-5 subs and obviously would most often want to watch in one of those rather than pay for direct. Currently I use Apple TV and a google search to check these quite easily. I didn’t sign up (my gut was no):
People look at sites like this for a very short time, it should obvious to somebody who’s not paying full attention what it is, who it’s for, what it does and why this is great time to sign up. Maybe get like 3 months free or something like that (Nvidia did this with GeForce NOW). Anyway good luck, hope to be a user one day!
P.s. I was also completely thrown off by the name that this must be related to actual couch surfing (accommodation)
what page?
I imagine @CouchSurfer did the same as I did on my first post. The IndieHackers UX is a bit confusing in my opinion. I saw the input box for "Link" - pasted my link, then clicked the tab for "Text" and added my text. Assumed the link and text would both be shown but realised when I read my post back that the input boxes are for separate link OR text posts. Surely text posts are more common and should be the default input option?
@TommyK thanks so much for pointing this out! Definitely feel like it should be default, or even not have a link post?
Not looking back at an important post after it's published... does that mean one doesn't look at own landing page as well after publishing? :D
(This started happening more recently of look at my thing without a link... :🤔)
@hatkyinc I review the landing page across web/mobile after every change but yes, let this one slip through the cracks...
