LovoLemon Founder Interview

The Vision: Why the World Needs a "Slower" Dating App

Interviewer: You’ve spent 15 years in product development. What was the "lightbulb moment" that made you decide to build LovoLemon?

Founder: As a user of modern dating apps, I realized we have a significant problem: it is impossible to select a partner based solely on a profile picture. Today’s apps are designed for split-second judgments, which naturally leads to short-term encounters and casual hookups.

Choosing a life partner involves so much more. I realized there was a gap for a platform that prioritizes compatibility over the "swipe." We wanted to create a space where you can actually find someone who fits your life, not just someone who looks good in a photo.

Interviewer: How does LovoLemon actually solve this? What happens "under the hood" when a user joins?

Founder: We take a data-first approach. We ask about the things that actually matter for long-term success: background, culture, religion, height, weight, and lifestyle. For example, if you are Muslim, you likely want to be with someone who shares your values regarding pork or alcohol. If you are a "gym junkie," you want someone who shares that energy.

We conduct a personality test to understand the user better, then generate a compatibility score. This score helps users find the closest match possible based on shared values rather than just proximity.

The Brand: The Story Behind "LovoLemon"

Interviewer: The name is very memorable. Tell us about the metaphor of the "Lemon."

Founder: It comes from the saying, "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." In our modern, busy lives, many people have become "sour" and exhausted by the dating process. They’ve lost interest because the experience has become bitter.

My idea is that women, with their natural sweetness, can turn that sourness into something healthy and refreshing. When people mingle on our platform, the result is our signature offering: Refreshing Lemonade. We want the dating experience to feel healthy again, not like a chore.

The Solo Journey: Bootstrapping with a Partner

Interviewer: You’ve mentioned you are funding this entirely out of your own pocket. Why choose the solo-funded route instead of seeking VCs?

Founder: I have 15 years of experience in product development, UI/UX, branding, and marketing. My partner, who is also my fiancé, is a Full-Stack Developer who handles the mobile app and backend. Since we have the skills "in-house," we don't need to answer investors who might push us toward "engagement hacks" or superficial features.

We both have full-time jobs, and we fund LovoLemon from our own salaries. We share everything, household expenses and platform costs. It’s a true partnership where we are building our business and our future together.

Interviewer: You have a very disciplined launch strategy. Tell us about the "1,000 Profile" rule.

Founder: Because we value quality, we manually review and approve every single user. Our strategy is to stay in a "waitlist" mode until we have 1,000 high-quality, vetted profiles. Only then will we approve them all at once. This ensures that the moment the platform goes live, the community is vibrant, and the compatibility matches are meaningful.

Final Advice for Other Solo Founders

Interviewer: What is the biggest lesson you've learned while building LovoLemon?

Founder: Use your own skills as your capital. If you can design, code, or market your own product, you have a massive advantage. Don’t rush to find money outside; focus on solving real human frustration.

If you are building with a partner, make sure you share the same vision. Since my partner is my fiancé, our commitment is total. We aren't just building an app; we are building a lifestyle that we believe in.

"We are taking the sour experience of modern dating and squeezing it into something sweet, healthy, and refreshing. That is the LovoLemon promise."
