I have a YouTube channel for Premium Poker Tools. All of the videos basically have super low view counts (less than 10), and I'm not sure what to make of that.
I worry that a big part of it is the lack of exposure. In looking through the YouTube analytics page, most videos have between 10-30 impressions, which YouTube defines as "How many times your video thumbnails were shown to viewers. Includes only impressions on YouTube, not on external sites or apps." So it seems like there's some amount of chicken-egg problem going on here: YouTube doesn't show the videos to people --> low view count --> YouTube doesn't show the videos to people.
I'm not even sure what the right questions are to ask. I've been googling around and know the basics of title, description, tags, and all of that. But what else is important to know in trying to get a YouTube channel off the ground? And is the chicken-egg problem real? If so, what sorts of things can you to do get around it, or at least mitigate it?
At the end of the day, youtube is just a search engine and the competition is huge.
Would be surprised if you wrote a blog post, then did zero promotion work and got 10 clicks? I suppose you won't, so why do you expect youtube to be any different? If you want eyeballs you need to promote.
I read that the overall rule in content marketing is to spend 20% of the time crafting the content and 80% promoting it. It translates in 4 hours of promotion for every hour of content creation and I would say that it is an understatement.
So you shoukd ask yourself if it is worth it for your business to spend all this time growing your youtube channel. If it is, promote your content on your social media, find relevant subreddits, facebook groups, quora answers and comment to youtube channels in your niche (the latter can be huge if you are able to reach the first positions in a video with lots of views).
That makes a ton of sense, thanks! In retrospect I don't know why I was imagining that solid content would just magically rise to the top.
Looked at your channel.
Honestly your thumbnails are bad. Nothing intriguing, interesting, or pretty about them.
I don't play poker so your titles I can't comment on, but they need to be something someone would click.
I searched for 'poker when to call' and compare those video titles and thumbnails against your own.
Forget about looking at impressions and analytics. Just keep making videos, that provide good value, make good thumbnails and good titles and be patient.
Also figure out if YouTube is the place to be spending your efforts. Are your customers on youtube? Talk to 10 of them and find out where they go for poker content etc.
Good luck.
Yeah, the thumbnails do suck. I just picked one of the default ones and didn't think it'd be a big deal, but now I understand that they are important. Thanks for the advice!
